“The Prime Minister and President of the New Democracy Party, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, spoke by phone in the context of the inquiry he received from the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, with President of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras, President of PASOK Nikos Androulakis, General Secretary of the KKE Dimitris Koutsoumbas and President Hellenic Solution Kyriakos Velopoulos.

Mr. Mitsotakis reiterated that, in his opinion, there are no conditions for the formation of a government by the current parliament and that he intends to return the research mandate this afternoon. The prime minister informed political leaders that the government will propose to expedite the convening and dissolution of the new parliament so that parliamentary elections can be held on 25 June.

The swearing in of the new parliament is expected to take place on Sunday 28 May. On Monday, May 29, a president will be elected, and on Tuesday, May 30, he will be dissolved to start new elections, which are expected to take place on June 25 under a strengthened proportional system.

The President of the Republic will receive tomorrow, May 23, at 11:00, the President of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, Alexis Tsipras, to assign him a second research mandate, in accordance with the provisions of Article 37 paragraph 2 of the Constitution. .
