“The result of the elections is a huge victory for New Democracy and personally for Kyriakos Mitsotakis,” the MP and former minister stressed in a written statement. Costas Ah. Karamanlisfor the results of yesterday’s elections, stressing that at the same time Serres gave “loud response to unbridled personal attackswhich he accepted. “This is the first time that a leader of the official opposition has come to Serres to personally confront a parliamentary candidate. He was crushed by an entire prefecture that turned its back on him,” he says.
His full statement:
“The election results are a huge victory for New Democracy and Kyriakos Mitsotakis personally. This is an unprecedented result in our modern political history and fills our faction with responsibility.
In these elections, two political schools collided: On the one hand, the school of responsibility, programs and projects. Against the school of populism, enmity and demagoguery.
Mature citizens have chosen a policy of responsibility and results. They chose stability and continuity. They instructed New Democracy to continue the hard work and plan for the country’s next day. Reliably hold the helm of the Motherland, as this faction learned to do in the most critical periods for the country.
However, at this time, in addition to my great joy at the faction’s historic victory, I cannot hide my deep emotions at the loud response of the people of Serraia to the immense personal attacks I have received.
For the first time, a leader of the official opposition came to Serres to confront a parliamentary candidate in person. He was crushed by the whole prefecture, which turned its back on him.
Because Serres proved that this is indeed the Castle of Democracy. And Castles do not fall with demagogy and cynical populist tricks. Castles remain standing because there are citizens who stand out, shed light on the truth and punish political adventurism.
I thank my fellow citizens for their support. And I promise them that my motto: “Together we carry on” is a commitment. Together we move forward towards Serres, towards a new Greece.
And that work begins today. Always with moderation, seriousness and political culture, we all move forward together to a great victory in the next elections, which will elect a strong, independent government, which the country needs.
