Turkish Foreign Ministry: Greece’s “statements” about the Pontic genocide are “provocative”

Turkish MFA dismisses reports of Pontic genocide as ‘unsubstantiated allegations’ […] some radical groups against Turkish history […] who foment hostility towards Turkey” while accusing “certain politicians in Greece” of “distorting historical data”.

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims, referring to “those who make unrealistic claims and statements against Turkey” that “the responsibility of Greece and the fact that it was sentenced to compensation for the atrocities committed by the invading Greek army in violation of the laws of war, during the bloody invasions of Anatolia were recorded in the Treaty of Lausanne.”

He also speaks of “politicians who continue to manipulate, deceive, distort and fabricate lies and distort reality” and urges them to “turn face to face with their dark history and get rid of the hysteria caused by Turkey’s hostility.”

“We recommend that all circles in Greece adopt a vision that will create an atmosphere of peace and cooperation, instead of continuing their provocative rhetoric and actions today,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry concluded in a statement.
