Next Monday (May 22), at noon, will be decided by the Special Court of Tirana whether the newly elected mayor of Heimarra will be released or whether pre-trial detention will continue, Freddie Belleriand his partner Pantelis Kokavesis, according to judicial and diplomatic sources in the Albanian capital.

Yesterday Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece Haris Lalakos visited Freddy Beleris in Avlonian prisonsto learn about the conditions of his detention and the state of his health.

Further developments will depend on the decision made on Monday, which primarily concerns the official assumption of the duties of mayor by Freddie Beleris.

The whole case, which caused a strong reaction not only among the national Greek minority of Albania, but also in Greece itself, is currently under the jurisdiction of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK).

In a statement, U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez called Freddie Belleri’s arrest problematic.
