Polls: ND Leads for Four Years

OUR superiority in voting her N.D. against him SYRIZA over the four years from the 2019 election to today is reflected in a graph that depicts a time series of voting intent measurements taken over that period. impulse company and featured in relevant SKAI central news bulletins.

It is well known that SYRIZA was unable to cancel – at least in terms of opinion polls – the order given election result and be number one at some point. It appears, however, and is of particular interest, that the main opposition party throughout this period was accounted for with a smaller percentage than the percentage it received in elections. On the contrary, N.D. managed several times to show better poll results than the results of the 2019 elections.

The largest gap in the “cut” between the two parties was recorded in April 2020. This is the time of the first lockdown, especially strict quarantine for coronavirus. N.D. recorded the best poll result in four years, reaching 46%. At the same time, SYRIZA recorded the worst poll results with a percentage of 22.5%. The difference between the two parties was 23.5 points. It was preceded by the crisis on Evros, with the attempt of thousands of immigrants and refugees to enter the country, where the actions of the government were approved by the citizens.

If we look at the evolution of the poll results since September 2019, just two months after the election, N.D. she seemed to have improved her percentage, and out of the 39.9% she got at the ballot box, the polls showed that she got 40.5%. At the same time, the party of the official opposition is retreating, and out of the 31.5% it won in the elections, it seems to be gaining an advantage of 26.5% in the poll. The performances of the parties in the following months are recorded with slight fluctuations. The manifestation of the pandemic is the first key event, and fixing the dynamics of the parties shows that the authorities, through their manipulations, initially won the trust of citizens, and, accordingly, the indicators of sociological surveys of the main opposition party decreased. That’s when, in the spring of 2020. Kyriakos Mitsotakis he accepted the proposals of his colleagues and members of the government to hold early elections. Supporters of this idea argued that from the position of power N.D. he could easily go beyond mere proportionality and at the same time deal a heavy blow to the main opposition party, which had a bad image in the polls. However, these recommendations were not taken into account.

The largest opening of the “scissors” between S.Z. and SYRIZA was registered during the first quarantine period.

Lift prices

In the subsequent period, when pandemic management was a central issue throughout 2020 and 2021, SYRIZA showed slight fluctuations in its percentage, reaching 25% and finally falling to 22.5% in January 2022. Rates N.D. show a gradual retreat as the ruling party accumulates dissatisfaction and citizen fatigue from a months-long health crisis, which does not leave other parameters of everyday life untouched.

Thus, in January 2022, the difference between the two parties was 10 percentage points with ND. will fall to 32.5% and SYRIZA to 22.5% as the official opposition party seems unable to capitalize on the discontent the government is gathering. In March 2022, the difference is capped at 8.5 percentage points, with ND at 32% and SYRIZA at 23.5%. This is a period of intense energy crisis, and war has already begun in Ukraine. The adoption of measures to overcome the energy crisis, punctuality and inflationary pressures, as well as subsidizing electricity consumption and subsidizing fuel, seems to be paying off for the government, as it does not show further poll wear in the near future. Once again, early election scenarios come to the fore, consistently rejected by Mr. Mitsotakis, who reiterates that elections will take place at the end of the four-year period.

In July 2022, the gap narrows even further, to 8 percentage points, as the government comes under pressure from revelations of the wiretapping scandal. The difference in the coming months is between 7 and 8 percentage points. Again, noteworthy is the inability of SYRIZA to win on government corruption. The main opposition party reaches 26.5%. The smallest difference in polls over four years was recorded in March 2023 after a fatal crash in Tempe. But again, this is a loss of ND. not the achievements of SYRIZA, which reduce the difference. The percentage of the ruling party falls to 30%, and SYRIZA – 26%. Since then N.D. shows a gradual improvement in the survey results against the backdrop of SYRIZA stagnation.
