Youth became the main target of his cross-channel press conference Janis Varoufakisdeveloped, among other things, the main directions of its government program MeRA25-Gap Alliance.
However, at the same time, he launched an attack on Mt. Mitsotakis, Tsipras and Androulakismostly against the president of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance.
He rejected her special purpose governmentwhile he also made two positive references to Andrea Papandreou. He began at length with his mention of the youth, whose “future is not what it was.”
Under the responsibility of the three ruling parties, young people “are suffocated in a Greece that forces them to choose between a discredited authoritarian state that oppresses them and an oligarchic private sector that terrorizes them.” This is why, he continued, “new kids immigrate or are forced to live here without a dream. They don’t care which one of us is prime minister. They care about a decent future. And, fortunately, they arise spontaneously, especially after Tempi.
Questions about the economy
G. Varoufakis continued the topic of finance, raising the question why “while our state is bankrupt as never before, the markets are in a hurry to buy up its debts?” How is it if our real national income is 20% below the level of 2007, and the public debt is 49% higher than in 2007? How is this possible when, since 2019, Mitsotakis S.A. added 50 billion in debt to the state without increasing real income? Why don’t the markets rise up to take Mr. Mitsotakis’s head, as they took Mr. Mitsotakis’ heads? Papandreou and Samaras?
Especially when, he added, “Mr. Mitsotakis dares to talk about a primary surplus of several million for 2022, when last December alone he borrowed 49 billion from insurance funds and other government agencies to pretend that he balanced the state balance. ? How will he get that $49 billion back into insurance funds without serious liquidity problems? Why is there no surge in the markets? How can you talk about the level of investment when in 2022 alone the country spent 20 billion more on imports than it received from exports and tourism combined?
Mr. Varoufakis cited the above questions to conclude that “investors who buy our government’s bonds know full well that our government is bankrupt. But they don’t care” because they have European Central Bank coverage, he explained.
ECB terms
“Why does the ECB keep our state in permanent bankruptcy, but at the same time finance it to hide this bankruptcy? love; Out of solidarity? Of course not. It happens under very specific conditions,” he said, which conditions he then cited.
- First condition: “Continue buying and selling red loans in the context of the so-called Hercules.”
- Second condition: “maintenance of the colonial superfund”. Do you understand that we are the only country on the planet with a Superfund in which SYRIZA, by order of the troika, transferred all state property to the Board of Trustees, which is managed by the troika? Even India under the British Empire was not so humiliated.”
- Third condition: “Do not touch the electric cartel, the euphemistic energy exchange, which was also legalized by the capitulated SYRIZA on the orders of the troika.”
- Fourth condition: “The disappearance of collective agreements and the encroachment of companies that hire workers on enterprises, public and private.”
- Fifth condition: exorbitant, in his words, taxes.
Election dilemma
In doing so, however, Mr. Varoufakis raised what he said was the main question that citizens will be asked to answer on May 21:
“Can Greece become a normal, resilient and generation-friendly country that says yes to everything that the ECB demands? Greece can become a normal, stable and friendly to the new generation country within the framework of the memorandum, which, by the way, is not provided for by any EU Treaty, but only by the humiliating, colonialist memorandum obligations of the Papandreou-Papademos-Samaras-Tsipras-Mitsotakis governments?
Without significant interruption, he warned: “Greece will continue to exile its children, embitter its old people, day by day become a sprawling tourist resort, a money laundering and real estate paradise, and its people will be stripped of their beauties.” give credit for everything. Faced with a terrible dilemma: either emigration, or the life of servants and entertainers of wealthy foreigners.
100 day program
At this point, the leader of the MePA25-Gap Alliance introduced the 100 Days program. Eventually:
1. “We legalize the creation of a public company for the management of red loans, which we will call “Odyssey”, which we will replace “Hercules”.
2. “Legislatively, we fix the retail price ceiling for electricity, which will not exceed by 5% the average cost of its production and distribution, which in fact represents the abolition of the Energy Exchange. Immediately after that, we proceed to re-establish the Unified PPC with the big difference – in relation to the old PPC – that the leadership will be appointed by the Advisory Board and will be accountable to it. It will consist of a lot, the majority and minority of which will consist of experts and citizens appointed by Parliament.
3. “We are legislatively abolishing the colonial ‘Superfund’ and turning public property into a capital base, new ‘dual’ state banks, a new development bank and a new rural bank.”
4. “We are implementing a plan to exempt small and medium-sized enterprises from taxation. In particular, the VAT rate will decrease from 24% to 15%, the rate from 13% to 6%, and for basic necessities to 0%. In addition, all prepayments of taxes for small and medium-sized enterprises will be canceled, while the tax rate for small enterprises will be reduced to 10%, and for medium-sized enterprises (from 10 to 500 employees) to 20%. As for large companies (more than 500 employees), the tax rate will increase to 30%.
5. “Legalize the abolition of wage labor in all sectors and introduce collective agreements in all sectors.”
6. “We are planning a productive restructuring and a Green Industrial Revolution of the country.”
7. “We are creating new agricultural cooperatives with a focus on local seed banks.”
8. “We are implementing an institutional framework for new cooperative self-managed production companies on the BIOME model.”
9. “We are doubling spending on public education and the NHS within four years, while cutting private spending on para-education and private clinics.”
10. “We legalize the Dimitra system.” Re-evolving his method of working, he reiterated, moreover, that by doing so, “consumers and businesses are spared bank fees that currently cost them electronic transactions, which amount to an astronomical amount of $2 billion a year.” “Dimitra”, according to G. Varoufakis, “reduces the social costs of the banking crisis, a new attempt by Frankfurt to blackmail our government – as it was in 2015 – and, if not born, the transition to the national currency.”
In fact, elsewhere in the interview, G. Varoufakis claimed – as he did, after all, also write in his book The Invincible Losers – that he presented the plan in question to the SYRIZA leadership group in 2014 and the Council of Ministers a year later, where he “received great acclaim when I introduced it during those turbulent days of 2015.”
He concluded by saying that it was an “immediately applicable, moderate” 100-day program and criticized the major parties, noting: “The difference today is that their bone of contention is which of the two, let alone three, implemented the memorandums better”. And at that moment he criticized Alexis Tsipras for the fact that because of him there was no break in 2015.
This was followed by a report by the head of the MeRA25-Alliance for a breakthrough in media issues: “107th place in the international ranking of countries in terms of freedom of the press does not honor either you or our republic. This is an issue that touches the very heart of the democracy of the place,” he said, addressing the journalists present, as well as criticizing the issues that, in his opinion, should have been raised during a teleconference of political leaders. And, if the opportunity presents itself, he will attack journalistic groups for their bias.
Fire against the government-SYRIZA
Reiterating his position that “the minimum joint break program to be drawn up and agreed even in principle requires many months,” he directed his fire against the leadership of the SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance: “They don’t want even a minimal joint break program with the oligarchy, nor a common front that would support a common government of break with the oligarchy. Why; Because the leadership of SYRIZA for a long time preferred not to break off relations with the oligarchy.”
Responding to an opposition leader’s official communication 24 hours ago that “Mr. Varoufakis excluded himself from the invitation of progressive forces”, the head of MeRA25-Alliance for the Rupture countered that “I excluded myself from the ministerial conference organized by Mr. Varoufakis” . Tsipras is at the mercy of the oligarchy for those who want co-management with a progressive mask. This is what we needed in order not to exclude ourselves from such alisverisi […] The leadership of SYRIZA is asking us for the votes it lacks to rule with the tolerance of an oligarchy. He won’t have them. Full stop,” he said.
Describing, on the other hand, his party’s electoral goal, he said that the election result targeted by MeRA25-Alliance for the Disintegration “destabilizes Mitsotakis SA” but at the same time prevents the government under a “progressive” mask from continuing implementation of the oligarchic policy of the shareholders of Mitsotakis S.A.
Describing the government as “an unholy alliance of acrocentrists (who haven’t seen the cartel they don’t like) and acrorights (who believe the country’s security requires drowning immigrants in the Aegean)”, he emphasized that this break and no rotation is necessary. The ultimate goal of MeRA25-Alliance for the Break, the creation of a new great militant left, has come to an end.
“Dirty 89”
To follow-up questions, when asked to comment on the possibility of a special purpose government, he responded as follows: “Greek society has rejected the idea of a special purpose government in disgust since the ‘dirty 1989’. When parties that had nothing in common ended up in government to bring Andreas Papandreou to justice.”
Finally, answering the question of what, in the end, he will do if he becomes prime minister and the country becomes the object of Turkey’s aggressive actions, G. Varoufakis insisted on cooperation with the General Staff, on the one hand, and diplomatic contacts with another. In this latter, he argued that he would threaten to withdraw from NATO and cancel bilateral defense agreements to conclude: “The fact that we are not ladies and we do not have the best relations with them (i.e. with foreign governments) increases the efficiency these phone calls. Because, as Andreas Papandreou taught us, no one respects a person who says yes.
The head of the political scheme was introduced by MeRA25 spokesman Eric Miltiadis Edman, who criticized parts of the media for what he said were biased towards the party.
