Tsipras: Mitsotakis public confession in wiretapping scandal – only under a progressive government will those responsible be held accountable

“For the first time, Mr. Mitsotakis publicly acknowledged that there was a wiretapping scandal and that there was no national reason for surveillance,” said the president of SYRIZA-PS. Alexis Tsipras in an extraordinary statement he made the day after telephone battle of political leaders.

“Rare news broke yesterday. For the first time, Mr. Mitsotakis publicly acknowledged that there was a wiretapping scandal and that there was no national reason for surveillance.

But if there was no national reason for the surveillance, how did he invoke national secrecy to hide the truth from the commission of inquiry? And why does Mrs. Vlahová, who, without any national reason, illegally subscribed to these illegal surveillance as an EEM prosecutor, still remain in her post? And why, after 9 months, the justice system has not laid any responsibility or charges on anyone?

Mr. Androulakis’s reference to the need to bring those responsible in this semi-state case to justice is reasonable, except that it is equally reasonable that under a New Democracy government this will never come to fruition. This is only possible with a progressive government. On May 22, let us all assume the responsibilities entrusted to us.”
