Yesterday’s speech by the Prime Minister in the capital of Ilya took place on the pedestrian street on October 28 in Pyrgos. The interesting thing is that, as a local expert told me, a few meters away from the place where Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke, there is the office of Kostas Tsavaras, who, of course, did not appear, since the relationship was interrupted.
Private message
And the Prime Minister himself, however, sent an indirect message to Tsavara, who left open the possibility of claiming the region of Western Greece. Mr. Mitsotakis, referring to Governor Nektarios Farmakis, noted that “he has excellent cooperation with the government”, stating that “he will also be your next governor of the region”, thus expressing his support without asterisks.
Karanikolas and the South
Many were surprised by the fact that he was finally included in the staff of N.D. Spyros Karanikolas from PASOK. His candidacy has a prehistory, since the original thought was the translation of N.D. go down to the South Sector. However, since there are Vassilis Spanakis and Tasos Gaitanis, two guys who sympathize with Maxim and are fighting for his election, it was decided not to appoint a new candidate, which could upset the balance.
Scoring
I’m leaving the South for Athens A, where security is a key agenda for candidates, as crime is one of the residents’ biggest problems. In this context, the proposal of the new ND candidate is interesting. Omiro Tsapalu, those who serve in the police stations of Omonia and Agios Panteleimon should be divided into days of service so that they have the motivation to stay there and have additional staff.
Sympathies
The prime minister is very cautious in his tours and does not get into “local” rivalries of candidates, as he wants the maximum possible from everyone. This does not mean that he does not have his own personal sympathies and he showed them during his visit to Aetoloakarnania. Mr. Mitsotakis, in all three of his speeches, in Agrinio, Nafpaktos and Messolonghi, hailed the work of Spilios Livanos at the Ministry of Rural Development. Perhaps an additional reason is that the way he left the ministry was seen in retrospect as unfair.
“After the Election”
Of particular interest were the answers of US Ambassador to Cyprus Julie Fischer. When asked by Alexia Tasuli at the Delphic Forum about how the superpower feels about the elections in Greece and Turkey, she replied that “we will listen to what the citizens want and we will work with whoever gets elected”, adding that “The Eastern Mediterranean is very important and we have a lot to do after the elections.” Elsewhere in her presentation, she noted that “we are looking forward to results in both countries and building relationships” as maritime security and EastMed remain important.
