Greek-Turkish: Akar asks for joint exploitation of the Aegean Sea

ISTANBUL – ANSWER. Joint exploitation of its natural resources Aegean Sea offers Hulusi Akar and talks about the possibility of extending the moratorium between Greece And Türkiye. In his interview with Haber Global TV, Mr. Akar indirectly responded to Kyriakos Mitsotakis who emphasized that Ankara should abandon its revisionist policies. The Turkish minister stressed that Greece’s position on the issue of rapprochement “fluctuates”.

Mr. Akar noted that at a meeting with his Greek colleague Nikos Panagiotopoulos discussed many issues and stated that “our desire, as we have always said, is that the wealth of the Aegean be a resource for both sides. The inhabitants of both sides rightly benefit from the wealth of the Aegean. Let’s also continue our cooperation in many other areas, especially in the field of tourism.”

The Turkish Defense Minister also touched on the reduction of tension in the Aegean Sea and stressed that “we have a moratorium, which was introduced in 1988. This means: in the period from June 15 to September 15, let’s not conduct exercises or hostilities, let’s not have a negative impact on tourism.

The Turkish Defense Minister said that Ankara “will not allow a fait accompli.”

In fact, during the negotiations we had there (including in Antioch with Mr. Panagiotopoulos), we talked about extending it, starting from May instead of June and ending in October instead of September. For our part, we stated that we are ready and support in this matter.”

After stating that Turkey is in favor of negotiations within the framework of international law and good neighborly relations, Mr. Akar stated that “from this point of view, our neighbor has some hesitation. We are waiting with the hope that they will find the right path and come to the right place. As we always say, this is not [επιτρέψουμε να] violate our rights and the rights of our Cypriot brothers, especially in Cyprus. At the same time, we will not accept any fait accompli. Therefore, our statements should not be taken as a threat. It’s not a threat. Just as it’s not a weakness to say “let’s sit down and talk.”

Meanwhile, the Turkish landing ship Anadolu, which Recep Tayyip Erdogan describes as an aircraft carrier, anchored in the port of Izmir.

From today, it will receive Turkish citizens until the elections, which will be held on May 14. Last week, Mr. Erdogan announced “an Anadolu mission in Izmir to send a signal to where it should be,” as he characteristically stated.
