Mitsotakis: SYRIZA has learned nothing, gives out promises and money

Regarding the Greek economy, elections and plans for the next four years, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis speaking at the Delphic Forum with Peter Spiegel.

“Greece has taken important steps to reduce its debt. This brought investment, new jobs and development helped support households,” the prime minister said, adding that New Democracy plans to increase the minimum and average wages by 25% over the next four years.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis mentioned tax cuts that burden the middle class, but “with care so as not to compromise fiscal discipline.”

Mr. Mitsotakis acknowledged that citizens are under pressure from inflation and stressed that the government has supported them by creating fiscal space. He also noted that inflation is not a Greek phenomenon.

“SYRIZA makes promises”

As for the elections, he said he wants to continue the path he has chosen, and SYRIZA’s choice is to give out promises and money.

According to him, he implemented what he promised in 2019, and for this reason he believes that citizens will again trust the ND. “Every day I see the townspeople. People want stability and more reforms, if you ask them. SYRIZA has learned nothing. They are in the same tone. He doesn’t understand that the world has changed“, he commented.

Investments and digitalization

Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to the investments made in the country, in tourism, in the pharmaceutical industry, estimating that there may be more of them in the future.

Regarding the digitalization of the state, he said that a lot has been done, but even more needs to be done so that the state is fully digitized in 2027.

Speaking of the judiciary, he set a goal the time of administration of justice is approaching the European average.

Speaking of Tempi, he mentioned “a shocking accident, a blow to the stomach that shouldn’t have happened.” “What matters now is how you learn from your mistakes,” he said.

“Confused” cooperation government

He noted that things are confusing in the cooperation government and cited Bulgaria as an example. “The first elections are important. They will show which government and which prime minister will govern. PASOK says strange things. He does not want either Mitsotakis or Tsipras, but he does not say who he wants for the post of prime minister. I don’t think people listen to this position,” he added.

“Citizens saw me rule for 4 years, while they also saw Mr. Tsipras for 4 years. The decision is in their hands,” he said, referring to Alexis Tsipras that he would never underestimate him. “He showed political skill. But as prime minister he was disastrous. We have many main characters. It is Mr. Varoufakis who now proposes this Dimitra system. Let’s not forget what happened in 2015. We will lead the country forward or backward,” he commented, among other things.

For EMP

Asked about the wiretapping case, the prime minister replied: “We have learned the lessons and changed everything at EYP.” He cited the government’s response to illegal software, adding that mistakes were made and should not be repeated.

Türkiye must decide

With an eye on Turkey, he turned to those who talk about the “blue motherland” with a series of provocative actions and statements. “He has to make a strategic decision. He wants to solve the Cyprus problem and change his attitude towards the West, or continue a policy closer to China and Russia. They have painted the Greek islands red on the map and this is not a positive thing. Maybe after the elections they will return to reality. We do not discuss the issue of borders and national sovereignty. We have only one question – sea zones. Nothing more. Everything is clear to me,” he stressed.

The Prime Minister stressed our strategic relationship with the US and noted that there is a cross-party consensus in Congress regarding Greece’s role in the eastern Mediterranean.
