Mitsotakis: We do not engage in dialogue with the absurd

On the position of Greece regarding Türkiye said the prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his speech at a New Democracy campaign rally in its municipal hall Xanthi.

“From Thrace, where Christians and Muslims live in harmony under the European umbrella of the Greek citizen, I sincerely appeal to our neighbors,” the Prime Minister said, and continued:

“I want to tell them that our relationship they should not have a place in the heat of the pre-election struggle. They also should not be poisoned by the hatred around the religious minority of Thrace. I do not think that there is even one of our fellow citizens who will ever want to become a tool for other purposes.

Conversely, the Turkish leadership would do well to realize that reality is not changed by the falsification of history and conditions. By drawing arbitrarily on the map with red islands and regions that were, are and always will be blue.

And it’s impossible, after all, when you thank the country for helping with earthquakes, but because we rushed in first. We were the first to help the Turkish people against one unprecedented natural disaster. It is impossible to simultaneously recognize this movement of good will and provoke it at the same time.

That is why I want to repeat our clear positions from here, from Xanthi. We are consistent, we are not naive. We readily respond to any aggression. We do not enter into dialogue with the absurd, but we always accept and reciprocate any gesture of goodwill. We are ready to consider our main difference, which is nothing more than demarcation of maritime zones in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean always in accordance with international law. But we are always unwilling to tolerate any doubt about our sovereign rights. It is important that the other side of the Aegean be careful in what they say and, I hope, true in their intentions. We will be the first to gladly respond to any gesture of goodwill.”

Mr. Mitsotakis noted that in Thrace harmoniously between Christians and Muslims in a regime of equal rights and equal rights and emphasized: “Here, in Thrace, the dimensions of both national pride and harmonious coexistence are united. In other words, you are in Thrace both an outpost and an embassy of your homeland. And you usually have the best understanding of our politics, politics based on the equality of citizens. Equality and an equal state, for which Konstantinos Mitsotakis was the first to fight and impose.”

He stressed that the Agreement between Greece and the United States singled out Thrace as a geostrategic pole. He said the government has protected the border from migrant incursions, saying the border remains impregnable and is recognized as Europe’s eastern frontier.

ABOUT fence in Evrossaid it “will continue to spread despite the furious reactions of those who fight it.”

He looked confident in the victory of the New Democracy in the elections and characteristically declared that on the evening of May 21 all of Greece would be blue.

He also commented on the SYRIZA pre-election gathering in Chania with speaker Alexis Tsipras and noted: “We have no problem filling the venues and starting speeches on time. I’ll tell you a little story. Mr. Tsipras came to me in Chania and asked me to speak in the same square where I spoke. And his speech was for 7 and he went at 7:30 and he went at 8 and he went at 8:30 and he got on the podium at 8:40 because the square was half empty.”
