Staikouras: Salary increase, reduction of contributions are priorities for the new four-year period

In the main directions of her election program New Republic mentioned Minister of Finance and MP candidate Fthiotidas Christos Staikourasduring his speech at the Delphi Economic Forum. According to him, all available financial space will be used to increase the real income of a citizen. And he set as priorities, among other things, a new increase in the minimum wage, an increase in the non-taxable minimum, an increase in the salaries of civil servants and a new salary scale. At the same time, he said that there would be a new reduction in insurance premiums and the abolition of the feigned fee, provided that tax evasion would be further reduced for the latter.

About his course inflationpredicted that this year will be, with today’s data, at 4.5% at the average level, and the GDP growth rate will be much higher than 2.3%.

asked why the VAT on food was not reduced, responded that a similar measure would cost 1.4 billion euros and therefore appropriate fiscal equivalents are needed, while no one can guarantee that this reduction will reach the consumer. And he added that patience, perseverance and a targeted policy are needed for those who need it most.

In a relationship “if the Greek economy is protected from a new global storm“, he stated that “I have not heard or seen any study at the global level, which would express concern about the Greek economy and its prospects, as well as the banking system. ” However, he indicated that they need prudence, attention and responsibility, not excuses.

With regard to banks in particular, he said they are in a much better position than they were in 2019 (for example, in terms of a sharp reduction in red loans and a significant increase in deposits), adding, however, that the banking system “needs to show great responsibility and give back to society what it has taken from society.”
