So far, 120 Greeks and Cypriots have said they would like to participate in the rescue operation from Sudan when possible, Deputy Foreign Minister Andreas Katsaniotis told ERT. As he explained, when there is a truce, the point is to get to the airport from where the Greeks are, through a safe passage.
The Deputy Foreign Minister assured that preparations are underway from Greece and other European countries with the aim of “being able to approach the airport whenever possible with a team that will provide both security and medical assistance.” In fact, he expressed his determination that, when conditions permit, this plan will be implemented.
He also referred to yesterday’s meeting of the Crisis Management Group of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by the head of Greek diplomacy Nikos Dendias, during which the situation in Sudan was discussed, the security of the Greeks, and plans for their release from the country were discussed.
