The Prime Minister called political stability a “national necessity”, noting that the trajectory of progress is the only way to the homeland, and therefore the decisive criterion for our vote tomorrow.

I have just delivered to the President of the Hellenic Republic an Act of the Council of Ministers by which I formally propose the dissolution of Parliament and the calling of national elections on Sunday, May 21st. With a significant conclusion, that is, our first term of office, as I promised from the very beginning and as it actually happens.

You are well aware of the successive external crises that our country has experienced and overcome over the years: first, the immigration invasions of Evros. Then a global pandemic. Later the war in Ukraine. Energy boom and international precision. And every day the national challenges of such an unpredictable neighbor as Türkiye.

Against all this, our economy and society resisted. And not only. Because with sound management, the state supported workers and enterprises. Reducing, at the same time, 50 taxes and contributions. Increase for the first time in 12 years of pensions. And an increase in the base salary from 650 to 780 euros.

Almost 300,000 new jobs have been created in the same period, and our national economy has grown 12 times, so now the country is very close to recovering investment grade. Development, which in turn will mean cheaper loans for the Hellenic Republic, for businesses and for our households.

This national goal, combined with the need for a strong representation of the country at the international level, ensures political stability for four years. That is why this is a matter of extreme importance, according to Article 41 of the Constitution. Because Greece needs a clear perspective on its course and clear decisions in its leadership.

I am sure that we all understand the importance of moments, since our country, from the tail, is already the main character in Europe. Greece must also establish itself as a geostrategic and energy power. Protecting your borders from immigration and any other danger. And the strengthening of her voice, which can now be heard everywhere: in the US Congress, in Brussels and in all major capitals. Trust me, I’m well aware of the challenges as well as the successes we’ve had in this area.

The foregoing takes on special significance on an uncertain and unstable planet. Difficulties may seem behind, but I assure you that there will be no shortage of difficulties. Consequently, political stability becomes a national necessity, and the trajectory of progress is the only way for the Motherland. So, the decisive criterion for our vote tomorrow.

I share with you my thoughts on today’s institutional process. With honesty that I’ve been talking to you for 4 years. And with a clear conscience, he remained true to his duty. Not hiding behind bad moments, which should become less and less. And while insisting on the good ones, we should make more of them.

In July 2019, I promised not miracles, but a plan and hard work with concrete commitments, which in 2023 became a reality. So today I feel more experienced and more confident. Because I know the problems better. Basically, however, I know the potential of this place better. Ones that arm us all with new self-confidence.

So, going to the polls, I look you in the eyes and declare that I am optimistic about tomorrow. We just need to stay united. Away from lies, dirt and empty slogans that will again besiege us. And recognizing how important the May 21st vote is. To move forward together. Confidently, boldly and forward!
