Referring to the absence of the Prime Minister at the last session of Parliament, the President of SYRIZA-PS began his speech. Alexis Tsipraswithin discussion about the “blockade” in the Kasidiari party. It is recalled that SYRIZA will abstain from voting.
At the beginning, the leader of the official opposition repeated the invitation – a challenge to a debate between them: “Mr. Mitsotakis has disappeared again. We had, he says, many clashes in Parliament. He doesn’t want any more. He also doesn’t want a teleconfrontation. He trusts himself so much. Or rather, the communicators who train him trust him so much that they won’t let him confront him with anything. Don’t be irreparably exposed.”
Addressing the Minister of the Interior who spoke earlier, Al. Tsipras said, “Since you are a good speaker, Mr. Voridis, let Mr. Mitsotakis put you on your feet so that we can have a dialogue.”
“You become the best sponsors of the Casidiaris Party”
At the core of today’s debate, namely the Kasidiaris Amendment, Alexis Tsipras accused the government of institutional amateurism, opposing the position presented by SYRIZA on this issue.
“You are making a third amendment and the problem would be solved with a small addition to the current law,” the President of SYRIZA emphasized, noting that Ilias Kasidiaris is campaigning from prison “with tolerance for the government.”
He then accused the government of contacting the judges, adding that “in this delicate matter concerning the defense of the Republic against its enemies, your institutional brutality has the opposite effect.”
“In the end, you manage to become the best sponsors of the Kasidiaris party. You are arguing for those who are petitioning the Electoral Court and the Supreme Court of Human Rights to annul elections. Imagine the impetus it will give to the far right if a decision is made that justifies them, ”the leader of the official opposition emphasized.
He then emphasized that the institutional response to fascism must be clear and called on the government to pass a law that would not violate the Constitution by accepting the SYRIZA proposal.
“In matters related to democratic functioning, enough damage has been done, do not cause more damage with your frivolous choice. A mistake is not corrected by insisting on a mistake and a bigger mistake. We will be protected by the people, not the judges, the crisis of the Greek people will show a democratic government of the majority, worthy of the social demand for responsibility and dignity,” Alexis Tsipras concluded.
Attack on the government over the past four years
Earlier, Alexis Tsipras accused the prime minister of breaking his promises over a four-year term by launching an attack on the government on a number of issues.
“Mr. Mitsotakis said in his keynote speech. Less taxes. Lots of investment. Good and new jobs. Better wages and higher pensions. An efficient state that will provide citizens with security, decent health and modern education. And transparency, accountability and meritocracy “, – said the leader of SYRIZA.
Continuing, he argued that the Prime Minister reduced taxes on great incomes and great wealth, while instead he did not reduce indirect taxes, he retained VAT and excise duty.
At the same time, Mr. Tsipras stated that the government did not achieve its goals of increasing investment, that in his days the standard of living of citizens decreased due to punctuality, while not only did it not keep promises about pensions, but, on the contrary, “13 -th pension, which was given by SYRIZA”.
“Every second citizen has halved spending on essentials. He doesn’t even go on vacation for a week. You predicted a 60% increase in the legal overtime limit. In practice, you canceled the 8-hour period. Where there are many good jobs that you have listed. Talk to the workers about the situation they are in,” he said.
Regarding the investment sector, he argued that only speculative funds showed interest in various sectors of the Greek economy.
Regarding health, Alexis Tsipras noted that “words are superfluous.” “Negative loss records in relation to our population. You refuse to hire staff and at the same time turn your back on private clinics. Hospitals are facing a shortage of consumables, and at the same time you have a direct task,” he said, among other things.
The leader of the official opposition also touched on security issues, mentioning in detail the “Greek mafia” and the wiretapping case.
Finally, he again focused on economic issues, arguing that the New Democracy led to the fact that the middle class lives on coupons.
“I have tried to make a brief account of the 4 years of the SI, which promised better and new jobs, higher wages and security, resulted in the middle class everywhere living on vouchers, and created an atmosphere of general insecurity”, Tsipras, arguing that the government managed to achieve what he described earlier, with the help of its parliamentary group, which acted as its arm, and with poor legislative practice.
For EYDAP and EYATH
The President of SYRIZA focused on the issue of water privatization, referring to the Prime Minister’s “ass dump”.
“What did Mr. Mitsotakis say about water in 2018? He was talking about a strategic investor entering EYDAP and EYATH,” he said, arguing that an earlier government law tried to prevent the return of EYDAP and EYATH shares to the public from the Superfund, where they were transferred in 2016. are you trying to hide? Now, when you see people’s reactions, you try to change your attitude and say that if you are elected again, you will present the actions to the public. Why after the elections? Do it here and now. We present you with a correction. You obviously won’t. But the world took care of you,” he said.
“Do you want us to believe that if Mr. Mitsotakis is re-elected, he will not privatize water? And you want us to believe you? And the air we breathe will be privatized,” he said.
“The government with the body of N.D. and Prime Minister Mitsotakis, or worse, independent Mitsotakis, is the government that will destroy what is left. And at the same time, the world understands that the only hope that public goods such as health care, education and water will remain in the public domain is the progressive government that will emerge if SYRIZA becomes the first party,” he said.
