The debate (and then the voting) continues in the plenary session. parliament for an amendment blocking participation in the elections of the Kasidiaris party.
Watch live:
The amendment for the Kasidiaris party is part of a Home Office bill titled “Regulations on First and Second Degree Local Government Organizations – Pet Welfare Regulations – Public Sector Human Resources Regulations – Other Home Office Ordinances and Other Urgent Provisions”.
It is noted that it supplements the provisions on the control by Department A1 of the Supreme Court of the conditions for the participation of associations in national elections. The amendment provides that this oversight will be exercised not by a committee of five members of the Department, but by all senior judges who participate in order, as stated in the explanatory note, to provide “increased guarantees of impartiality and impartial judgment.”
This bill is the last to be submitted to the House of Representatives for discussion and vote ahead of the Easter break and the May 21 elections.

The ND supported the draft law on the body in the competent committee. SYRIZA did not take part in the voting, KKE voted against and PASOK-KINAL, Hellenic Solution and MERA25 reserved their seats at today’s plenary meeting.
As for the controversial amendment, during its discussion in the competent committee, ND and PASOK-KINAL stood up, which, however, propose that control be carried out not by Department A1, but by the Plenum of the Supreme Court. SYRIZA abstained from voting and insisted on the proposal-provision proposed by the official opposition party when the relevant provisions were originally adopted. The KKE does not agree with such agreements, which may open a window in the future for other exceptions of parties and associations. Hellenic Solution and MeRA25 expressed their negative attitude.
Also at the center of the political confrontation were the provisions on five constitutionally independent authorities, establishing that their members and employees cannot be held criminally liable by third parties, “unless they violated the confidentiality of information and data that became known to them in the performance of their duties” . It is expected that today the relevant provisions will be supported in the plenary session by Deputy Prime Minister Panagiotis Pikramenos, who has the appropriate responsibility for independent bodies.
