Christodoulidis: The current status quo cannot be the solution to the Cyprus problem

Under no circumstances will we compromise with the occupation and the current status quo cannot be the solution for the Cypriot people and the future of our country, said the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis.

In his address to journalists who arrived at the Holy Church of St. Lazarus in Larnaca for the solemn vespers and the litany of the holy relics and the holy icon of the Saint, the President of the Republic said that “we are here to honor the patron saint of Larnaca, let’s honor Larnaca.

I just want to remind you that this is not my first, but my third year here, and this is a tradition that I look forward to continuing in the coming years.”

In response to a journalist’s remark that, after so many decades, our Churches in the occupied territories are still not functioning, the President of the Republic said that this is “a tragic consequence of the ongoing occupation, for this reason and on our part, as I have repeatedly said, from the first day of our tenure, we are developing a concrete plan to break the deadlock and resume negotiations from where they left off in Crans-Montana.

Under no circumstances will we compromise with the occupation, and the current status quo cannot serve as a solution to the Cyprus issue and the future of our homeland.”
