March 25 Message from Menendez: Celebrating the Warm History of U.S.-Greece Friendship and Looking to the Future

A bipartisan resolution on the 25th anniversary of March has been submitted to the Senate. The resolution was signed by 43 senators and filed under the leadership of Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez and Wyoming Republican Senator John Barrasso. As stated in a related statement, “In addition to celebrating Greece’s historic role as a birthplace of democracy and its great contribution to the world community, the bipartisan resolution also recognizes the strength of the strong partnership and friendship of the United States with Greece.” .

Robert Menendez specifically notes: “It is a great honor for me and my colleagues to present our bipartisan resolution on the celebration of the 202nd anniversary of the Greek Independence Day. Today, we not only celebrate the history of warm friendship between the United States and Greece, which is rooted in our shared values and vision of the world, but we also look to the future, building on this unshakable foundation to strengthen peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balkan region. I look forward to continuing to work with the Greek people and the Greek American community to strengthen the relationship between our countries and together face today’s challenges to our security and prosperity.”

Senator John Barrasso, for his part, notes: “Since independence 202 years ago, Greece has been a strong partner and ally of the United States. From the very beginning of the Greek struggle for independence, the Americans supported and fought alongside the Greek people. Our two peoples continue to strive to advance the principles of freedom and democracy. Relations between the US and Greece are based on shared values, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership and friendship in the coming years.”
