Meeting with prime ministers Italy Georgie Meloni and her Portugal Antonio Costa becomes prime minister on Friday morning Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Government sources said, according to APE-MPE, that the meeting is taking place at the initiative of the Greek Prime Minister to agree on and discuss economic governance rules ahead of the Euro Summit session.
According to the same sources, the prime minister believes that this is a discussion that should develop at the level of leaders (and not only the Eurogroup), be based on real data, and not on stereotypes of the past, and be completed in the near future.
Mitsotakis: Greek deposits protected
“The best days of the Greek economy are ahead,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said earlier, taking part in the European Council.
Speaking of raising interest rates, he said that this is also putting pressure on Greek borrowers, but assured that “the Greek banking system is strong and that their deposits are protected.”
Competitiveness and trade on the agenda of the 27th Dinner
Thursday night at the Council of Europe Leaders’ Dinner, discussions on 27 focused on trade in a new geopolitical framework, including the war in Ukraine.
The issue of energy was also discussed earlier and, in general, ways to ensure emergency planning, taking into account the period of gas storage. Most of the conversation was about the “energy transition” part.
The Prime Minister of Greece intervened in the discussion and expressed his assessment that now is the right time for longer-term planning and reform of the electricity market.
At the same time, Mr. Mitsotakis noted that in order to reap the benefits of renewable energy, networks and investments in this “energy transition foundation” are critical.
