Olga Gerovasili, secretary of the SYRIZA-PS parliamentary group, denied that the Greek police truck crane that swept away the garbage cans on Akademia Street – as seen in the relevant video – during the strike mobilization on Thursday, was moving to pick up his official car, which had previously been attacked with a smashed glass.
In her statement, Ms Gerovasili states: “Under the weight of the backlash caused by the release of the video of the fatal attack on the EL.AS truck crane, GADA has reportedly ordered an investigation.”
He describes as “completely false” the information that “the purportedly mentioned crane moved around the Academy grounds to pick up the official escort and security vehicle provided to me, which today was attacked with broken glass”, and adds: “Nothing could be more false. My temporarily parked safety car never stopped, but actually left the scene on its own and even earlier! Since when does a window need a crane?”
He also states: “The ‘leaks’ in question, which have already been reproduced in the Greek-wide media, are not accidental. However, they represent the panic actions of the government, trying to connect outsiders and once again shake off responsibility. And they are proof that even this investigation, which was allegedly ordered, does not shed light on the murderous attack of the truck crane, but is a complete fiction to cover up the fact.
He concludes that “panic is bad advice for a government that has lost control. However, we understand them because a person who drowns gets caught by his own hair.”
Ms. Gerovasili served as Minister of Citizens’ Protection and government representative to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
