Theory: Public opinion and self-confidence

Prior to the crash, in all opinion polls, citizens had a clear preference for the demand for self-confidence. Independent governments were “themselves” as the citizens said, “where now the two parties would be tangled up with each other.” Now, after the tragic incident in Tempi, sociologists say it is possible that this particular request will be receded, as the feeling that one party will control the other in a coalition government may intensify. The question is how it will affect the political scene. According to today’s data, there is no possibility of joint rule on the horizon, and PASOK, which is a key party, has ruled out such a possibility. The most experienced say that this will not happen now, since it is logical that the parties do not talk about collaborations in pursuit of the maximum result. However, after the elections, the fan will open.

However, one of the MPs who has long been moving in the logic of mutual understanding in the everyday field is Dora Bakoyannis, who has never ceased to maintain close contacts with PASOK and communicate with her colleagues in a small center-left party. Especially in these times, this persistence of Dora, which was not interrupted even during the turbulent – at the level of relations between the two parties – period of wiretapping, may be important.

I stay on the topic of the accident. The mass gatherings that took place during the week in all the cities of Greece were really large, peaceful and unguarded. The participants were mostly ordinary people without party hats, since the usual arrangement, when someone shouted with duduks in front, and the rest followed behind, was absent. No. We (thankfully) didn’t see it. And this is optimistic.

After the “burning” of the April elections in the last cabinet, the prevailing date, as most say, for the elections is May 21st. But she’s not the only one. Voices have already begun to be heard that they are talking about June, and complete opposites are also talking about the beginning of May. In this case, the repetitions will “fall” into the Panhellenic courts, with early May election proponents saying that it is not the first time elections to the Panhellenic courts have been held, as the same thing happened in 2012. But even one comparison with the turbulent 2012 is enough to prevent a repetition of that period.

Apart from Kostas Karamanlis, who resigned, and the leaderships of OSE and ERGOSE, who changed on Friday when Mr. Gerapetritis appointed interim management, there were no other resignations after the terrible accident. In this regard, the Prime Minister receives many proposals that from a week onwards, all organizations related to transport have a “broom” in order to restore the building from scratch.

However, the fact that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport wants a radical restructuring was also noticed during the last meeting of Giorgos Gerapetritis with trade union activists, who asked that none of the old ones be present at the meeting, asking to negotiate “only with the minister”.

Nikos Dendias was not appointed to the last cabinet, and at some point in the middle of the meeting he left, and many said that his whole position was that he did not want to be involved in the accident. The assumptions are not true, as the departure of the Minister of Foreign Affairs was related to his official duties, as he met with the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus Konstantinos Kobo during his first visit to Greece.

How can two cases, a wiretap and an accident, be connected? Evangelos Venizelos, within the framework of the meeting of the Bureau of the Eurogroup of Socialists and Democrats, took a position on this issue, uniting the cases. The problem, he said, is “respect for the right to security, in the name of which the state must exercise wiretapping or condone the use of spyware,” and how citizens demand that justice function reliably and efficiently and “that the accident must be investigated by independent committees.” The former minister concluded by saying that “deep down there is a common denominator in terms of the quality of the institutions, the functioning of the government, the independence of the judiciary, the effectiveness of the state, the sense of security.”

He introduces himself

The disruption was sparked within a week by a leak that came to light that former Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis claims that 15 years ago, a representative of his government, Thodoros Roussopoulos, who implicitly but explicitly called Kostas Ah. Karamanlis not to be a candidate, he expresses his own opinion, which he did not know about. The placement seemed strange to any trained eye, as it is self-evident that Roussopoulos, 15 years after the end of their collaboration, is only expressing himself. The former minister expressed his displeasure with the stern statement, stating that “my views are not supported by third parties.” Somehow, even those who did not understand this understood that Roussopoulos had long ceased to be the representative of Karamanlis. He only represents himself.
