The Turkish Defense Minister speaks of positive and constructive talks between Athens and Ankara. At the same time, Hulusi Akar, in an interview with CNN Turk, refers to the hope of finding “peaceful solutions” between the two countries.
The Turkish Defense Minister did not fail to report on the F-16 issue, noting that Ankara has fulfilled its obligations and is waiting for a “green light” from Washington.
“We are in positive and constructive negotiations with Greece. We told them that we are for dialogue. There was a train accident in Greece, we conveyed our grief. We hope to find solutions to problems in a peaceful way within the framework of good neighborly relations,” Hulusi Akar said.
Asked about the F-16, the neighbor’s defense minister said: “We have fulfilled our obligations and expect the same from our allies. We noticed that the US President is in a positive mood. The statements so far are positive. Positive statements are also being made at the White House and the Pentagon,” he said.
At the same time, Hulusi Akar said that “there are also negative statements from some members of Congress. We want common sense to prevail. They must approach the problem rationally. A strong Turkey means a strong NATO. Everyone needs to come to their senses. We were unfairly excluded from the F-35 program, which is unethical. Negotiations and discussions continue after the January 18 meeting in Washington.”
