In the presence of Alexis Tsipras, his civil funeral was held in the Municipal Gallery of Karditsa. Vaio Vlachos, from the victims of the railway tragedy in the city of Tempe.

The funeral took place at the 1st cemetery of Karditsa.

Vaios Vlahos, 34, rode the fateful IC62 train with his partner and their dog. Vayos died in a collision between two trains at Tempi, and his girlfriend is hospitalized with serious head injuries in the intensive care unit of Larissa University Hospital, while their dog survived the collision.

Vajos was sought out by his brother Vangelis Vlachos, who resides in Argentina, via Twitter during those difficult hours when the fate of many train passengers was unknown.

At my wedding here, we sang the Tsaligopulu song, “so I also took a train one night, passed through Larissa and arrived in Argentina.”

Now I understand why I have been crying over this verse ever since.

Instead of wreaths, Vaios Vlachos’s family asked for money to be transferred to an account that will be donated to a scholarship in the AUTH Faculty of Geology’s postgraduate program in Engineering Geology and the Environment.

As his brother tweeted, Vaios released a special program and has since worked on restoration studies and projects to improve the security of various infrastructures. In a tragic coincidence, he even went through part of his practice in the tunnels of Tempe.

It is recalled that the President of SYRIZA also attended the funeral of 28-year-old Elpida Hupa on Monday, as he knew her father.
