After the announcement of the decision of the Special Court Dimitris Papagelopoulos in his statement he says:
“For five whole years they tried to destroy me and put me in jail to wash away the huge scandal with Novartis.
They failed. Novartis turned out to be the biggest scandal in the Greek state, and I was convicted in two ridiculous, non-existent, fabricated and unrelated to the Novartis scandal cases of wrongdoing, with a slim majority only in the form of a fine.
I feel deeply offended that some people demanded to scrape my tomari, it was so cheaply priced.
The Greek people have understood and continue to mourn. It’s for now.”
Supporters of Dimitris Papagelopoulos state in their statement:
“Today’s decision of the special court comes to finally and irrevocably bury the flimsy indictment against our client, an indictment drawn up by a group of scribblers bothering with verification.
The court’s decision imposed only a monetary penalty, detracting from any defamation in the two cases in which our leader was found guilty by a marginal majority.
He was unanimously found not guilty of the charge of moral complicity in the criminal act of abuse of power, he was found not guilty of four of the six total counts of one misdemeanor, two of which he was found guilty of, two extenuating circumstances were found, and in the end only money penalty.
