“Save the conversation for later”

Megaros Maximos is focusing exclusively on the upcoming polls, which were “locked” on April 9th, and are now also looking into the technical details of the election announcement. While there is a constitutional possibility for Parliament to remain open until March 15, it was decided to dissolve it earlier, probably on Friday the 10th of the month. By then, a number of bills will be passed, some of which are prerequisites for the development of a new “package” of funds from the Recovery Fund. In particular, in addition to the pothen esches bill passed last week, bills on administrative justice, a new water and waste authority, a sweeping bill for the transport ministry and a bill for the health ministry are entering parliament. and transplants. In fact, Mr. Mitsotakis will use the parliamentary function in the next two weeks also for his personal speeches, through which he will highlight the “lack” of SYRIZA in the adoption of important legislative acts, which also have a social sign.

“We have a lot of work to do before the announcement of the elections and victory in two matches. And some people, instead of dealing with it, deal with what comes next.”

However, the fact that Parliament will be dissolved on March 10 does not mean that the announcement of the election date by the Prime Minister will not be made earlier.

According to the information, Mr. Mitsotakis will announce the address day in the next ten days, possibly at a cabinet meeting. It is no coincidence that the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers scheduled for today was postponed, and the date of its holding was not determined. However, as no final decisions have yet been made, it is possible that the Prime Minister’s announcements about the timing of the elections will be made through a statement or in the context of a meeting with the President of the Republic.

Finally, even though the government, faithful to the obligations of the prime minister, is about to expire its four-year term, Mr. Mitsotakis is constitutionally bound to invoke the national cause for the dissolution of the current parliament. According to Article 41, paragraph 3, “The President of the Republic shall dissolve the Parliament, at the proposal of the Government, which has received a vote of confidence, in order to renew the mandate of the people for the solution of a national question of the utmost importance.” As the saying goes, the prime minister will demand an extension of the people’s mandate, citing the economy and the need to face the “coming challenges”, as it is clear that the extension of political uncertainty is negatively affecting the economic sphere, while delaying the achievement of critical goals, such as obtaining investment grade.

It is noted that taking into account the fact that the showdown on April 9 with a simple proportionality of the formation of a government is not expected, the country will be led to new elections with the ND electoral law. Depending on the length of the advance directives that the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, will issue from April 10 to the leaders of the first three parties, namely Mr. Mitsotakis, Tsipras and Androulakis, the second elections will take place on May 14 or 21. This means that the next government will receive a vote of confidence from the new parliament around June 5th.

After the adoption of the forthcoming bills and the dissolution of parliament – for institutional reasons – a new government program of ND will be introduced. The presentation will be accompanied by a series of thematic events, some of which, for example on the theme of “Health”, will be visited and delivered by Mr. Mitsotakis himself. Finally, it remains an open question whether – unlike in 2019 – there will be a teleconference between political leaders. To a large extent, this will depend on the traditionally “difficult” discussions of party representatives to agree on the date and conditions of the debate. Although there are no final decisions on this issue in Maximos Palace, there are thoughts of holding a teleconference, but with all political leaders, while government spokesman G. Economou did not rule out the possibility of a debate between Mr. Mitsotakis and Mr. Tsipras.
