Dimitris Vervesos, President of the Plenary Session of the Hellenic Bar Association and President of the Athens Bar Association, regarding the publication of the SYRIZA MP Pavlos Polakis on the Internet, states in his statement that “political criticism and any other political interference cannot go beyond the limits set by the Constitution and the European legal order.”
In particular, Mr. Vervezos stated:
“Protecting the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary has always been a priority for lawyers. The way in which Greek judges are selected through ESDI (despite any critical approaches to its work) and their personal and functional independence should not depend on political/partisan considerations.
Political criticism and any other political interference cannot go beyond the limits set by the Constitution and the European legal order.
The legal profession remains firmly committed to the defense of the democratic acquis and steadfastly opposes any attempt to challenge it.»
