A week of events with Polakis – Photius on the political stage

All attention is now focused on the week that politically begins on Tuesday, February 28, with an extended – and long-awaited due to recent events – meeting of the SYRIZA Executive Office.

The three days of Clean Monday were not without political events. Against. It was marked by tension, high tones and clashes that led to events and upheavals in the months leading up to the upcoming elections.

With the aim of (re-)launching a provocative post made early on Sunday morning on social media by the former Deputy Minister of Health and current SYRIZA MP of Chania, Pavlos Polakis, the post through which he personally targeted judges, journalists, bankers and heads of independent authorities is asking ” purges,” a tangle of events will begin to unfold, setting fire to the pre-election political landscape.

It is now clear that Mr. Polakis will have no place on the SYRIZA ballot.

In an announcement released on Sunday evening, the SYRIZA press office notes that: “By decision of the President of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, the position of Pavlos Polakis as head of the transparency department passes to Giannis Ragusis” and that “next Tuesday 28/2 the Executive Office of the Party will meet in an expanded format, where the President will demand that Pavlos Polakis be transferred to the Ethics Committee in connection with his attitude to the systematic violation on his part of the rules of collectivism and the democratic functioning of the party. “.

That sources in Kumunduru had already begun leaking since Sunday noon about Mr. Polakis, who had “dropped out of the election campaign,” in other words, was formalized within a few hours through statements clearly rushed by events, but also by for the first reaction of Pavlos Polakis himself, who wrote on social media on Sunday afternoon that “he will not start a dialogue with ‘sources'”.

“The political statements of Pavlos Polakis, articulated yesterday in his post, are in absolute contradiction to our unanimously approved policy statements on the functioning of the state, justice and institutions,” the heads of the Transparency Unit and Judges of SYRIZA, Yiannis Ragusis and Theophilos Xanthopoulos, said in a joint statement today, confirming the upcoming one. .. pre-election/pre-election divorce, which, however, remains to be seen whether it will also lead to the removal of Mr. Polakis or not.

The further development of events is expected to be determined, of course, by the reaction of the deputy from Chania himself, who a few days ago reminded his inner-party critics that “there are (party) procedures and (party) bodies in which he participated and was elected with the greatest percent.”

It should be recalled that, in the context of other intra-Party crises of the recent past, Mr. Polakis subsequently seemed to back off or temporarily tone down. However, there seems to be no scope for other similar managerial-type moves, while he has also been targeted in the last 24 hours not only by political forces opposed to SYRIZA, but also by: the Union of Judges and Prosecutors, the Union of Bailiffs of the State council, ESIEA et al.

New Democracy, for its part, is clear that it will try to capitalize on the Polakis case in the run-up to the elections by criticizing Alexis Tsipras himself and declaring condemnation of so-called “polarism” against the backdrop of the “unanimously convicted Nikos Pappas” case, whose “expulsion” from the SYRIZA ballots, the ND party “considers it self-evident”.

PASOK is also expected to act in the same vein, which in its most recent relevant statement called Mr. Polakis “Mr. expel unanimously condemned from Greek justice, Nikos Pappus.”

Thus, the context of the pre-election confrontation has essentially already been formed.

It remains to officially announce the date of the election.
