Eva Kylie: Companies, USBs, and “immature”

Between at least the end of December and mid-January, telephone conversations of a prisoner Eve Kylie with her sister Madalena, as well as her father, were registered by the Belgian police. Their contents were recorded in a multi-page document, accessed by the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Le Soir and the Belgian magazine Knack, and they were given to “K” for simultaneous publication.

Part of the data collected by La Repubblica, Le Soir, Knack and “Daily” it is also part of former Italian MEP Pier Antonio Panzeri’s confession to Belgian authorities that “burns” 44-year-old Kylie. “There was a meeting in Doha in March or April 2019. The decision that was made regarding the money involved her too,” Pancheri testified regarding Qatar’s $250,000 funding for Kylie’s spring 2019 election campaign.

Eva Kaili was arrested at noon on December 9, 2022 in her apartment on Rue Wirtz in the center of Brussels and was taken to Aren Prison about a day later, where she has been detained to this day. During one of her recent appearances before the Judicial Council on the issue of extending her pre-trial detention, Belgian judges gave her lawyers a 16-page document from the Serious Organized Crime Authority. It lists in italics her telephone conversations with her sister and father between December 24 and January 8.

The conversations were recorded by the Belgian authorities and are italicized in the Qatargate case file.

The content of the conversations reveals Kylie’s anxiety about the outcome of the case she’s accused of, as well as real estate rent collusion so they can cover their financial needs. “Eva is thinking of renting an apartment in Kolonaki to earn an income,” reads the document of the conversation, which took place at noon on December 26. Eva and Madalena Kaili are still talking about the need to close or rename the companies they are interested in: “They will change the name of Madegroup to Hard, they will also change their headquarters,” the Belgian police say. Also discussed is the possibility of closing a real estate company called Aria, which Kylie and Georgie recently co-founded in downtown Athens. In a conversation with his father on the evening of December 27, the latter “expresses regret that he made a panicky gesture, taking a suitcase”, while joking that it’s like watching a “dark movie with himself in the lead role.”

Of course, there is no shortage of references to the Greek MEP’s daughter, as well as “immature” as they describe her partner, Frasesco Giorgi, who they say is “bending with fear” and that he is “playing with fire”. . Some conversations raise questions and suspicions, although it is not clear if they have a criminal interest. For example, Eva and Madalena talk about when they will contact the minister about “Stergios” without specifying what it is about, while on the morning of January 8, Eva Kylie gives instructions to her sister to find “where there is a mirror “, an old mobile device, and a few USB sticks, which he describes as “essential”.

“How is it possible that these conversations are relevant if they took place after Caylee’s arrest and she knows that her communications on the prison phone are tapped?” Mr. Dimitrakopoulos commented on “K”. He also noted that the decision of the Belgian authorities to monitor the conversations of a member of the European Parliament indicates that during the months-long investigation against her, sufficient evidence was not obtained. The Belgian Sven Marie also indirectly referred to the problem: “We need to know that all her telephone conversations are recorded and the police listen to them,” he said characteristically. He also said that Kylie continues to be held on the grounds that otherwise she will try to destroy the evidence.

“In Doha, we agreed to receive money for the elections”

On January 24, former Italian MEP Pier Antonio Panzeri, a central figure in the so-called Qatargate, made a secret statement to the Belgian prosecutor’s office. It is alleged that he revealed to them unknown information about the scandal that came to light in early December and shocked the European Parliament. This was preceded by his decision to strike a plea deal with Belgian prosecutors in order to obtain favorable criminal treatment. Moreover, Italian judges granted the extradition request to Belgium for his wife Maria Colleoni and their daughter Silvia, who were being held under a Belgian warrant, while his main co-defendant pointed to him as the central figure in the case.

A month later, La Repubblica, Le Soir, Knack and “K” reveal the contents of Panzeri’s confession, at least as far as Greek MEP Eva Kaili is concerned. So what did the former MEP from Italy say? Kylie’s campaign for the May 2019 European elections was funded by Qatar with €250,000. “There was a meeting in Doha in March or April 2019,” Pancheri begins, listing the names of four other participants. Among them is the accused Andreas Kotsolinos. “As for Eve, I can’t remember if she was there yet, but I think she was present, not being 100% sure. But the decision made regarding the money for the candidates involved Eva Kylie. I am sure that as a result of this meeting, the Qataris decided to finance the election campaigns of three (including Kylie), Kotsolinos and another candidate for 250,000 euros. Yes, it happened.”

This mention of Pancheri is connected with the events of that period. While still head of the European Parliament subcommittee on human rights, the Italian politician signed a cooperation agreement with the relevant human rights committee of Qatar. It provided for closer cooperation between the two parties, the organization of annual conferences and the exchange of experience and know-how. His close associate and Eva Kylie partner Francesco Giorgi was also reportedly present at the Doha signing. The first conference was organized in 2019 and was dedicated to the fight against impunity or, in English, “Fight against impunity”, as the name of the non-governmental organization that Pancheri founded after leaving the European Parliament. A second conference followed in 2020 in Doha with the Vice President of the European Parliament, Eva Kylie, in the role of facilitator.
“Undefined References”

K contacted Eva Kailis’ Greek lawyer Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, who described Panzeri’s reports as vague and questioned the credibility of his claims. “He mentions that the meeting took place in 2019 in Qatar, but does not remember if Kylie participated in it. And that later he himself found out that the money was transferred to her and two other MEPs.” According to Mr. Dimitrakopoulos, this report cannot be taken as confirmation that the Greek MEP actually received money from Qatar to finance his election campaign. But even if this were the case, the Greek criminologist noted, the crime would be under the jurisdiction of Greek, not Belgian justice.

Eva Kylie’s Belgian lawyer Sven Marie also tried to question Panzeri’s credibility in an interview with the Greek media. “Pantseri, with his lies, caused Eva Kylie to end up in jail. Before he became a whistleblower, everything he said was considered a lie. Now he says what the investigator, the prosecutor and the cops want to hear. And from that moment on, he is considered reliable, ”he said in a television interview.
