
The agreement on the participation of Greece in the “Integration System” of Central America (SICA – Central American Integration System) with observer status was signed today, on Friday, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias following a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with SICA Secretary General Vernin Vargas, who is in Athens.
The aforementioned Central American Regional Organization was founded in 1991 and its member states are Guatemala, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Belize, Nicaragua, Honduras and Panama.
On the basis of common values ββand a common commitment to international law, the talks focused on the possibilities of establishing cooperation between Greece and SICA, including in the field of culture, environmental protection and the relationship between Mr. SICA and πͺπΊ. It is noted that Greece was unanimously admitted to SICA as an observer on December 9, 2022 during the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Member States of the Organization in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its announcement, on the basis of common values ββand a common commitment to international law, the negotiations between N. Dendias and V. Vargas focused, among other things, on the possibilities for developing cooperation between Greece and SICA. in culture, environmental protection and relations of SICA member states with the EU
