At the same time, Mr. Mitsotakis spoke yesterday afternoon during the Immigration Debate on “Rebooting Immigration: Moving towards Opportunity” in a panel that also featured the EU Home Affairs Commissioner. Ylva Johansson, Tunisian Prime Minister Najla Boudin Romdhan and Veronica Escobar, member of the US House of Representatives. The Prime Minister is moving steadily towards highlighting immigration as a European problem, which, he says, requires a common solution within the EU. According to the government, this more general line was also confirmed at the last European Council, since there, according to government sources, the key positions of Greece regarding the need to protect the external borders of the EU were recognized. and cooperation with third countries. For Athens, immigration is an issue that, despite the steps taken in recent years at the European level, remains absolutely dependent on the goodwill of Turkey. On the sidelines of the conference, Mr. Mitsotakis also had contacts with the leaders of the Western Balkans. In particular, he was scheduled to meet with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. As is known, Greece is firmly in favor of the European orientation of the Western Balkan states, in fact actively interfering in the affairs of Brussels. In addition, Athens plays an important role in facilitating contacts between Belgrade and Pristina in the context of the Franco-German proposal to resolve differences between the two countries.
