Two extra seats added to Constituency 1 East Attica increase interest in the already highly competitive area of the basin. Except Rest of Attica, from which the 1st East Attica arose, has always been a region with special characteristics due to the large geographical area it occupied. In order to cope with this peculiarity and make the presentation of the regions covered by the region more proportional, in 2018 it was decided to “break” the rest of Attica into two smaller regions. This is how the 1st East Attica and the 2nd West Attica arose.
The first East Attica, according to the split provision, will be represented in the parliament by 10 seats. As we mentioned above, according to the 2021 census, which will be valid for the upcoming elections, the district receives two additional mandates. It consists of the municipalities of Acharnon, Vari-Voula-Voulagmeni, Dionysos, Kropia, Lavreotiki, Marathon, Markopoulos Mesogaya, Paania, Pallini, Rafina-Pikermio, Saronico, Spata-Artemis and Oropou. The 2nd Western Attica elects four deputies and consists of the municipalities of Aspropyrgos, Elefsina, Mandra-Idyllia, Megareo and Filis.
In the 2019 elections in the 1st East Attica, N.D. managed to reverse the result of 2015 and come out on top. The ruling party achieved a noticeable increase in its percentage. He came out on top with 43.13% and got four spots compared to the two he won in September 2015 when he got 29.02%.
SYRIZA in 2015 had 35.02%, which gave it three places. In the 2019 elections, he again managed to elect three deputies in this constituency, but with a reduced percentage, as he received 29.60% of the vote. In 2019, KKE, Hellenic Solution and MeRA25 won from one place. PASOK, which won the seat in September 2015, was unable to keep it.
The addition of two additional locations in a particular region sets the stage for less competition, which is expected to be particularly strong. From N.D. here in the previous elections were elected interior ministers Makis Voridis, Giorgos Vlachos, Vassilis Oikonomou and Georgia Martinou. Ms. Martinou will most likely no longer be a candidate. However, new data is being formed in this region, as the candidates here will be extra-parliamentary ministers Stelios Petsas and Sophia Zacharakis.
Strong competition for SYRIZA candidates as well, as Christos Spirtzis, Nasos Athanasiou and Panos Skouroliakos are elected in this constituency.
PASOK is seeking to regain its seat through Mr. M. Christodoulakis.
PASOK is seeking to reclaim its place in the region. The strong candidate is that of Manolis Christodoulakis, former party secretary, while Giannis Smeros, Vasia Anastasiou, Pantelis Aspradakis and others remain on the ballot. In the previous elections, Evi Christophilopoulou was the first in terms of the number of votes, who is not a candidate this time.
The KKE elected Eleni Gerasimida, Greek Solution Antonis Milonakis and MeRA25 Maria Apatsidis.
In the 2nd Western Attica, SYRIZA managed to keep the first place, but recorded a significant reduction in its interest rates, which led to the loss of seats. In particular, in the 2019 elections, the official opposition party won 36.24% of the vote and won only one of the three seats it had in September 2015, when it received 40.80% of the vote. N.D. came in second with 34.28% and got three spots. In 2015, he failed to win a seat as he received only 21.40% of the vote. The fourth place in the region was won by the “Golden Dawn” in 2015.
For N.D. Athanasios Bouras, Evangelos Liakos and Giorgos Kotsiras, who were elected in 2019, will be re-nominated as candidates, while Susana Kalturumidou and Maria Panoilia will vote for the first time.
From SYRIZA, the seat was given to Giorgos Tsipras with a significant difference in votes from Giorgos Pancas, who came second. Both will again become candidates.
PASOK falls with a new ballot in which journalist Dimitris Stamu, among others, will be a candidate in this constituency.
