The US Secretary of State, as officially announced today, is going to visit Germany, Turkey and Greece from February 16 to 22.

In particular, as State Department spokesman Ned Price notes in his statement, the US Secretary of State will travel to Germany on February 16 to attend the Munich Security Conference. There, he will take part in a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings focused on continued support for Ukraine, assistance to Turkey and the Syrian people, and America’s commitment to transatlantic security and a rules-based international order.

Anthony Blinken will visit Incirlik Air Force Base in Turkey on Feb. 19 to see firsthand the US efforts to help Turkish authorities clean up the devastation caused by the Feb. 6 earthquakes.

He will then travel to Ankara where he will meet Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and other senior Turkish officials to discuss continued US support for Turkey and the Turkish people in the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes, as well as ways to further strengthen US relations with Turkey, which are “a valuable ally in NATO,” a State Department official said in a statement. The US Secretary of State is also expected to thank the Turkish government for supporting cross-border assistance to affected areas in Syria.

In Athens, the US Secretary of State will meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and official opposition leader Alexis Tsipras. Topics for discussion will be defense cooperation, energy security and the two countries’ joint commitment to defending democracy. In the presence of Mr. Blinken, the fourth round of the Greek-American Strategic Dialogue is due to begin on February 21st.
