“Western Macedonia is finally getting the university it deserves,” the prime minister said. Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his welcome at the opening ceremony of the new West Macedonia campus in the Kozani Active Urbanization Zone (ZEP).

“Here in Western Macedonia, beats at the heart of one of the most dynamic universities in the country“, – said Mr. Mitsotakis and described today as a great day not only for Western Macedonia, but also for the educational community as a whole.

To show the role that University of Western MacedoniaThe Prime Minister stressed that this is one of the five pillars of the Just Transition program in the region. It covers five cities and, according to him, all five should be supported.

As soon as he arrived at the university campus, he was met by the Minister of Education. Niki Kerameos and Rector of the University of Western Macedonia Theodoros Theodulidis.

“The buildings I see do not belong to Greek universities, and this makes us especially happy,” were the first words of the prime minister when he told a group of students waiting for him that there were not many such buildings in the universities of Greece. .

In her greeting, N. Kerameos emphasized that the new University of Western Macedonia “is a real academic gem not only by Greek, but also by European standards.”

He said that the University of Western Macedonia is in full development and is also a model in terms of the use of renewable energy sources (it is heated by a district heating system).

Regarding the university in question, he said that this year the budget for scholarships for students has been doubled. Last year, 2.1 million euros were allocated, and this year – 4.2 million euros.

“We won one of the bets we made the next day, the new state-of-the-art university campus is a pole of attraction for new people and development,” said West Macedonia Regional Governor Giorgos Kasapidis.

Rector Theodoros Theodulidis noted that “The University of Western Macedonia is on a dynamic trajectory of growth and extroversionand over the past three years, his educational footprint has exploded.

To date, the new campus has cost €25,000,000 and houses administrative services and three of the five departments of the Polytechnic School.

The development program provides for the construction of buildings to house the other two departments of the Polytechnic School. Funding has been secured for the construction of 350-seat student dormitories, a 750-seat restaurant for student meals, and a conference center with a 700-seat central hall and a 250-seat auxiliary hall.

The goal is for the University of Western Macedonia to become an environmentally friendly, energy independent, zero energy university.

In total, interventions will reach 75 million euros.
