Fears of a split in DISY

The balance of Democratic anxiety in Cyprus is hanging on a tightrope after official candidate Averof Neophytou was expelled in the first round and ceded to “rebel” Nikos Christodoulidis in first place. Until last night, the report said that the upper echelons of DISY are oriented not to give a turn, but to talk about voting at will. This trend is fueled by a deep conflict between Noephytos and Christodoulides, which is not easy to heal. Such a decision would certainly undermine the party’s foundations, as many of its voters see supporting Christodoulidis as the only way to prevent AKEL from coming to power.

Weber’s revelation

Not far from Nicosia, in Athens, a few hours ago it became known what was happening in Cyprus. Manfred Weber, while in the Greek capital and speaking behind the scenes, commented on the pan-European situation with the People’s Party, noting that he expects victories both in Greece with the “New Democracy” and in Cyprus. When it was pointed out to him that ELK candidate Averof Neophytou had been excluded from the second round, he referred to Nikos Christodoulidis, saying that he had spoken to Nikos Anastasiadis, who wants to tow DISY to the former foreign minister.

Polls

I stay with Cyprus as after the first round there was a big debate about the validity of the polls which didn’t “fix” the big percentage that AKEL ended up getting. SYRIZA saw herself behind an impressive percentage when Mitsotakis flipped it yesterday in Parliament… somersaults. “The one who came first, all the polls showed him first,” the prime minister said and continued that “the one who came third in the polls came out second. So, Mr. Tsipras, be careful that something similar doesn’t happen here.” Since the petition was a big blow to PASOK, the Prime Minister counterbalanced it by turning to Kostas Skandalidis and telling him: Scandalous, of course, you need to work hard.”

Point change

The provision on the exclusion of parties from the elections, which will go to parliament today, cannot be ruled out that it will have “small pinpoint changes,” government sources say in a column. This will not touch on its central philosophy, but perhaps some suggestions from PASOK, as well as from the scientific committee of the parliament, will be included.
