Nikos Christodoulidis and Andreas Mavroyiannis will finally be the two candidates who will run for the presidency of the Republic of Cyprus in the second round of elections next Sunday 12 February.
With over 85% of the votes counted, DISY but now an independent former Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides (approved in the current presidential race by the Democratic Party – WILDLY and other smaller parties of the so-called golden mean) was the first to cut the thread with 31.76%, while AKEL-backed Andreas Mavroyannis came second in the first lap race with 29.44%, and Averof Neophytou (Democratic alarm – DISI) in third place with 26.31%.

Nikos Christodoulidis, although himself a member of DISY, entered the election campaign as an independent, with the support of many parties (DIKO, EDEK, DIPA, Solidarity) against the candidacy of DISY President Averof Neofitou.

Recall that Nikos Christodoulides served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from March 1, 2018 to January 9, 2022.
