A cordial meeting between Mitsotakis and Anastasiadis at Maxima

President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadisprime minister welcomed on wednesday morning Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Maxim’s palace.

Mr. Mitsotakis warmly welcomed Mr. Anastasiades, speaking of a “very touching moment” for him and Greece as the latter is in Maximos Palace as President of the Republic of Cyprus for the last time.

The prime minister, among other things, said at the beginning of the conversation between them:

“I want from the bottom of my heart and believe, expressing the feelings of all Greek women, all Greek men, but also of all Hellenism in general, to thank you for the services you have rendered to your homeland.

“Ten-year President of the Republic of Cyprus, you came into action in the midst of a major economic crisis. Moreover, we know this well, because we also went through similar, perhaps more difficult adventures than you. However, you managed not only to improve the economy, but also to advance your country as a whole at various levels, and I think you have every reason to be proud of this.”

“Unfortunately, there are issues that we have not been able to resolve, first of all, the big national wound of the Cyprus problem. However, I know that even as a former President of the Republic, when your term expires, your heart will always be with how we achieve a fair, sustainable and functional solution to the Cyprus issue.”

“A goal, a cause that you fought for throughout your career and before you became president, and I am sure that this will forever remain in your heart.”

“Welcome again, I am sure that I will welcome you to this office many more times, now not only as a former president, but also as a personal friend, and I wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart. my heart.”

Anastasiadis: with the cooperation of Greece, we encountered Turkish revisionism

In turn, Nikos Anastasiadis called Kyriakos Mitsotakis “his friend.” “To be honest, this is also a terribly sensitive moment for me, because the end of a political path that has lasted 43 years, with the culmination of the last decade, is approaching,” he said characteristically.

And then he said: “What I would like to convey is the gratitude of Cypriot Hellenism, most personally to the government, your own government, my Kyriako, and also to the respective Greek governments, because through close cooperation we were called to collide – and I think what we have faced – with several dangers coming from Turkish revisionism and diplomacy, the good neighborliness that we have been taught is being built through the trilateral, quadrilateral, multilateral alliances that we have built, I think we have defended the Republic of Cyprus enough so that he can from the position forces to agree on a solution that is functional and permanently sustainable, but also in line with European laws. Something that will provide not only the Greek Cypriots, but also the Turkish Cypriots, thereby contributing to the establishment of peace, as well as the progress of the entire Cypriot people, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.

“As you well know, the second reason for my presence today is also an almost minimal sign of solidarity with Hellenism, with Hellenic Hellenism, with the foundation of settlements, social housing in Mati.

“I repeat, this is a simple indication, because the solidarity of Greece with Cyprus was just as varied, whether it be through sacrifices, blood or material actions in support of the Republic of Cyprus.

“Having said this, I want to say one thing: I will remain a Greek who worries about the fate of our Cyprus, about the fate of our Greece.

“I will be present not in power, but in any struggle that we will wage. Thank you”.
