“We are focusing on drawing up a plan of measures to stop price increases and inflation, stimulate domestic production, create new jobs and protect Romanian companies. I am convinced that this is what the Romanians expect from us. Not rotation, unification of elections, struggle for positions or other electoral arrangements. People need solutions, a formulated social and economic plan, not airplanes!” Marcel Cholak wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

PSD master plans

In the party, the Social Democrats are already making plans to update the government’s program in view of the moment when the rotation of prime ministers takes place in May 2023, and Čolaku will take over the post of head of government from Nicolae Chuke.

Measures discussed in the PSD:

  • 1% tax on turnover over 100 million euros for large companies with the possibility of paying income tax of 16% (but not less than 1% of turnover)
  • reduction of labor tax. At the first stage, for salaries up to 3,000 lei net with a percentage reduction of 15% from 47.5% of the gross salary, which comes to the state through taxes and contributions. The reduction of labor taxation will take place gradually until 2030.
  • state subsidization of the purchase of photovoltaic panels with priority for schools, hospitals and government institutions. The government and local authorities would have funds from European funds and national programs for such investments.
  • Reduction of VAT on basic food products with the conditions of retailers not to increase the prices of basic products.

It should be noted that the PSD wants to introduce a 1% turnover tax for large companies from next year, and the tax could be levied in 2024.

The discussions in the PSD took place in the context of a meeting of the PSD leadership with the leaders of the territory, which took place last weekend in Sinai.
