Mitsotakis Oracle for Polls

A new oracle, shortly before his departure from Japan, was given yesterday Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the date electionsleaving open all the possibilities for both April and May. “Some elections will definitely take place after Easter,” he said with a touch of Pythia, showing that he had not yet finally decided on election date – at least he doesn’t talk about it – and there is a possibility that the first elections will be held either on April 9 or after Easter. What is certain is that the elections will not take place three weeks after today, as Mr. Alexis Tsipras with… the threat that SYRIZA will abstain from every vote in Parliament.

The report of the official leader of the opposition stirred up the already electrified political atmosphere. Giannis Economou raise the tone very high in response to President SYRIZA’s request. A government spokesman spoke of “Trumpism a la Greek”, accusing Mr. Tsipras of trying to question and seriously weaken the institutional foundations of the Hellenic Republic, namely popular sovereignty, parliamentarism and constitutional order. Mr. Economou went on to say that SYRIZA is “again trying, after 2015, to take Greece beyond European democratic law and turn it into a third world country like those it admires,” personally accusing Mr. Tsipras of a totalitarian mentality due to which ultimately does not reflect that “all those who have damaged democracy throughout our political history have launched subversive projects, attacking parliamentarism and trying to delegitimize the functioning of parliament.” The announcement ended with the statement that “the government, on whose side the overwhelming majority of the citizens are, ensures and guarantees the democratic normality and orientation of Greece”, rejecting … categorically any possibility of an election before April.

He accused Al of “walking a la Grec”. Mr. Economou Tsipras added that SYRIZA is “again trying to push Greece beyond the limits of European democratic legislation.”

Bulletins

Whether elections are held in April or May, N.D. entered the final stage of preparation, as it is now in February. A key part of the preparations is the announcement of the ballots, which is expected to take place in the next ten days, as the lists are almost 95% complete. A meeting with party chairman Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected in the next few days, after which the prime minister will study and approve the lists prepared by his closest associates Yiannis Bratakos, Thanasis Nesis and Pavlos Marinakis to “lock up” all names. The end goal according to with information from “K”names announced before February 10th.

There is still a decision to be made on how to announce the ballots, which has not yet been finalized, as this is also a decision that Mr. Mitsotakis will make himself. One suggestion is to have a departmental announcement by category. For example, to announce in “groups” young people under the age of 40, local governments, women or politicians who were also candidates in previous elections. Another rationale is to have a comprehensive ballot announcement. Supporters of this point of view say that in this way it will be possible to avoid internal grumblings such as “some are projected differently than others” and “absolute justice” will come.
