
The prime minister began his meetings with members of the Japanese leadership Kyriakos Mitsotakiswho visits the Land of the Rising Sun today and tomorrow.
Initially, Mr. Mitsotakis and his wife, Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis, met in Tokyo with Crown Prince Akishino of Japan and his wife, Princess Kiko.
During the meeting, the issues of climate change and the transition to a green economy were discussed. The Prime Minister had the opportunity to brief on Greece’s initiatives, in particular the GR – Eco-Islands initiative, which aims to turn the country’s small unconnected islands into models of a green economy, energy autonomy and digital innovation.
Discussing Turkish Challenges with the Speaker of the Japanese Parliament
Earlier, the Prime Minister met with Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives Hiroyuki Hosoda. At the meeting, the desire to modernize and expand bilateral relations in all areas was noted.
Mr. Mitsotakis mentioned the positive performance of the Greek economy and the opportunities for Japanese business.
Events in Ukraine, international and regional events, as well as Japan’s cooperation with Euro-Atlantic institutions were also discussed. The Prime Minister stressed that revisionism and forceful change of borders are unacceptable.
Touching upon the Turkish challenges, he reaffirmed the firm position of Greece, according to which good neighborly relations and international law are the only basis for resolving disputes between states.
Finally, the Prime Minister conveyed to Mr. Hosonda the invitation of the Speaker of Parliament Konstantinos Tassoulas to visit Greece.
