Complaint to the Criminal Prosecutor of Athens regarding the possibility of “indirect” monitoring his phone number was provided by PASOK – Movement for Change member Giorgos Kaminis.
As he states in his post on social networks, his close friend, with whom he maintains constant contact, is named in the publications as the object of surveillance by the EMP. Mr. Kaminis himself claims that he often communicated with this man at a time when the latter was allegedly under surveillance.
For this reason, he also files a lawsuit with a view to judicial conviction of the perpetrators. Moreover, the MP from PASOK notes, his act is also symbolic: to highlight the government’s attempt to downplay the seriousness of the case and prevent the truth from being revealed.
Full post by Giorgos Kaminsh:
“The wiretapping scandal concerns not only the direct victims: those individuals whose privacy has been grossly violated. This also applies to those who have been indirectly affected, i.e. those who, while not being directly targeted, are in some way collateral victims. I mean people who, while the EMP was spying on a person, talked or communicated with him.
I am also one of these “reflexive” victims: my good friend Giannis Anastasakos, with whom I communicate regularly, is one of the persons named in publications as objects of surveillance by the EPM. So I decided and filed a corresponding claim with the Prosecutor’s Office for Criminal Cases of Athens.
This initiative has, of course, one main goal: the judicial conviction of those responsible. But it also contains a deeply political message: if the deviance has reached the degree that signs allow us to imagine, then the number of people who will suffer the same fate as me is incalculable. Under normal circumstances, uncovering a scandal of this magnitude would push the state to quickly run out of opportunities to clear it up. Unfortunately, the exact opposite is happening today: the government is using every means to downplay the seriousness of the case and prevent the truth from being revealed at all costs.
In the face of this unprecedented anti-institutional behavior, those who feel personally affected by wiretapping have a duty to remind and remind rulers that they will not let this matter be forgotten.”
