Eva Kylie: The message after the extension of the SIZO is “They are in vain”

Her first message from prison was sent Eva Kyliethrough her lawyer after the Belgian authorities’ decision yesterday to deny her application for parole.

In a statement she gave to OPEN through her lawyer, Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, the former Vice President of the European Parliament confirmed her innocence regarding her alleged involvement in the Qatargate scandal.

“They are suffering needlessly. And if they do me, I’m not going to admit what I didn’t do,” Ms Kylie said.

Recall that the pre-trial council in Brussels yesterday denied her request to be released from prison with restrictive conditions pending a decision in the Qatargate case. If no appeal is filed, Eva Kylie has the option to reapply for release after one month.

According to the testimony of her lawyers, the accused insisted on her innocence and referred to the fact that she is the mother of a 23-month-old child who cannot live alone, since she has the right to see him only once a month. The MEP reportedly told the council that she would accept even more restrictive conditions in exchange for her release, namely not only wearing a “bracelet” but monitoring her mobile phone around the clock to prevent tampering with the case file.

“Medieval Conditions”

Shortly before the decision was made public, Ms. Kylie’s lawyers spoke of medieval conditions of detention and for human rights violations.

Mr. Dimitrakopoulos reported that his director was isolated for 16 hours in a police cell, and not in prison, between 11 and 13 January 2023, on the orders of the investigator.

“With the lights on all the time so he can’t sleep in the cold. She was denied a second blanket while she was unwell. This is torture! the lawyer pointed out.
