Greek-Turkish: Erdogan’s “yurushi” threats

ISTANBUL – ANSWER. He returned to harsh rhetoric against Greece. Recep Tayyip Erdoganhow he threatened her Athena with the “jurisdiction of the mad Turks”. The President of Turkey, in his speech at a rally in Istanbul, stating that in Hellas they were afraid of him Rocket Typhoonstressed that “we don’t have that much interest in hitting Athens if you’re smart.”

Mr. Erdogan, however, immediately afterward stated that “if you militarize the islands, will we sit with our hands tied? look Mitsotakis, again you speak right and left. Know this very well: if you try to do something wrong, know that the mad Turks will make yurushi. But if you stay smart and wise, we don’t care about you.

Shortly after Friday prayers, there were other harsh statements from the Turkish president. Journalists asked Mr. Erdogan about Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ statement in Davos that “the issue of the Greek islands, Crete and the Libya agreement is non-negotiable.”

Mr. Erdogan stated that “Mitsotakis can say such things. However, these statements by Mitsotakis are not enough to determine the fate of the region. First, we see that both Treaty of Lausanne as well as the approach to islands currently not implemented by the Greek authorities. Ah, there can be no such thing as the militarization of the islands. But what are they doing now? They militarize the islands. They are militarizing these islands and going against both the Treaty of Lausanne and other agreements. That is why, of course, we take the necessary steps when the time comes and the moment comes for international meetings, where necessary. And they’ll take care of themselves.”

The Greek side will not always react to the absurdity of the Turkish president, the reaction of Athens.

There was no official response from the Greek government until late Friday evening, while competent sources note that the Greek side cannot constantly respond to the absurdity of the Turkish president and that everything he wanted to say was said by the prime minister himself in Davos.

Meanwhile, Tayyip Erdogan’s anger was called o Economistwhich is on its front page shows Mr. Erdogan with a profile of the new Turkish-flagged dictator and calls him a “hooligan”. “The Economist in English has said something about us again. Will the fate of Turkey be decided by the English The Economist? My people will determine it. My Mehmet, my Ahmed, my Hassan, my Ayse, my Fatma, my Hatice! They will determine it. Who is George, who is Helga? They fail to determine the fate of their countries,” Mr. Erdogan said.

Analysts believe Mr. Erdogan’s remarks may also have something to do with the shock that ORC’s poll results in Istanbul caused in the Turkish government.

The bloc of six opposition parties seems to be gaining a percentage as high as 50%, and together with the pro-Kurdish HDP, 58%, while the ruling AKP-MHP alliance only reaches 35%. Nationalist Action Party (NAP) President Devlet Bahceli has already spoken of manipulating the results.
