“Our borders in Euro with Turkey, which are also the borders of the European Union with Turkey, are impenetrable, they are inaccessible,” the Minister of Citizens’ Protection stressed. Takis Theodorikakos.
Speaking to ANT1 TV channel, Mr. Theodorikakos emphasized that the construction of the fence in Evros is a decision of state responsibility, noting that every day EL.AS. fights hard to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants. In addition, he said that in the first two weeks of 2023 alone, the Greek police arrested 24 traffickers and that about 400 migrants try to enter Greece illegally every day.
For the expansion of the Evros fence, Mr. Theodorikakos noted that a total of 140 km would be built, which would essentially cover the entire length of the Evros River. At the same time, he noted that 400 border guards will be added to the protection of the border, 250 of which will start working in this area in February.
The Citizens’ Defense Minister also referred to the death of former King Konstantinos, stressing that “in this country, we all have to come to terms with our history. Greece is a democratic country, since 1974 it has had a democratic state, stable and strong, it is a member of the European Union, and we are moving forward. But the fact that the referendum has finally been decided should not make us forget the history and the institutional role of the people and respect that role, regardless of the fact that we have finally decided that our government is democratic and not reigning.”
Regarding the security measures to be applied at the funeral of the former king, he stressed that EL.AS. he took all appropriate measures, adding that the deputy chief of police was in charge of the measures, so that tomorrow everything would be done as it should be.
Regarding the elections, Mr. Theodorikakos emphasized that the government had fulfilled its obligation to complete the four-year period, while at the same time he said that the independence of the New Democracy was a condition for the stability of the country. “I don’t think it’s time for experiments, because Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ New Democracy is a faction of unity and perspective for all Greeks, it is a faction of measure and logic, it gathers people and strength,” he said. At the same time, Mr. Theodorikakos called the decision of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to run for Euros as highly symbolic from a national point of view.
Finally, Mr. Theodorikakos noted that from January 20, 600 special forces will be added to all police stations in the basin. With this decision, he said, “we are significantly increasing the presence of the police in the center of Athens, the western regions and in general in areas where there are criminal zones.”
