Observations: Political storm after Doyakou’s opinion

Alexis Tsipras has launched a furious attack on Supreme Court Prosecutor Isidoros Dogiakos after his multi-page opinion that ADAE does not have the authority under current law to process requests from citizens asking if their phones are being tapped. for reasons of national security, but it also cannot be addressed to telephone providers.

With his intervention, the leader of the official opposition, in a personal tone, recalled that he had submitted a request to the Anti-Corruption Commission in order to find evidence to remove confidentiality from specific individuals who play a decisive role in public life, declares that he waives his parliamentary immunity, urging Mr. Dogiaco to initiate legal action against him. “Mr. Prosecutor, Freedom Square, 1, my office. I’m waiting for you to arrest me. But let it be known to you and to those who are on strike for these unprecedented and blatantly unconstitutional acts, whatever you do, you will not prevent the truth from shining and you will not succeed in silencing democracy. This place has deep roots.”

The President of SYRIZA speaks of a “gross violation of the Constitution” and adds: “No law or opinion can override the Constitution and ADAE’s mission to control and enforce the confidentiality of communications as defined therein.” Mr. Tsipras in his post accuses the prosecutor of “an attempt to intimidate officials of the Independent Power by threatening with prison those who dare to do their duty and resist sabotage in search of the truth. These threats have been known and formulated by criminals and those who fear the disclosure of their lawlessness for several months.”

Mr Economou

Yannis Oikonomou’s response was immediate, stating that “Mr. Tsipras and SYRIZA are accustomed to respecting the judiciary only when its decisions are in line with their aspirations. On the contrary, the government firmly respects and honors Justice and Democracy: without selfish conditions, footnotes and asterisks. We are firmly committed to the rules and institutions of the Republic, Mr. Tsipras continues to relentlessly seek identity in toxicity.” A government spokesman added: “We expect Mr Tsipras, the former prime minister, to understand that such theatricality is more suited to someone like Mr Varoufakis. After all, it looks like the two of them still have a lot in common.”

The reaction of other opposition parties was also raised. PASOK emphasizes that “with today’s opinion, the prosecutor of the Supreme Court impedes the investigation of the ADDU, which, as an independent constitutional body, should carry out its work unhindered.” From Harilaou Trikoupi, they add that “the New Democracy government bears a heavy responsibility for hitting institutions and the rule of law, proving every day what a fine imitator it has been the SYRIZA-ANEL government.”

“Dogyakov’s opinion not only puts into practice, but also further strengthens the recent reactionary ND law. and in general the “dark” institutional surveillance structure, of which, of course, ADAE is a part,” says the KKE. “The government proclaims ‘much light’ and enacts ‘black darkness’ laws…” they point out in the Greek Decision.
