Added to the existing problem of the New Democracy on the right is another managerial issue: the question of the burial of the former King Constantine. The conservative public of the country has publicly expressed its dissatisfaction with the fact that the funeral of the former conquered will not be held with the honors of the head of state. The answer, which also shows the correctness of the decision taken by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is given by the Constitution itself, in Article 4 of which it is stated that “titles of nobility or iconic titles are not awarded or recognized to Greek citizens.” The Prime Minister, for balance, decided that the Constitution should be strictly observed and that before the elections there should not be the slightest issue that could become an object of political exploitation.
Blue Bloods in Athens
Dignitaries from all over Europe are expected to arrive in Athens on Monday for the funeral of the late King Constantine. Although there has not yet been an official announcement as to who will be “present”, according to the information, the participation of Queen Margrethe of Denmark, sister Anna Maria, as well as King Felipe of Spain with his wife Letizia is expected. His mother Sofia and aunt Irene, who also lives in Madrid, have been in Greece for several days. The former king of Spain, Juan Carlos, the son-in-law of the deceased, is also present. From the British royal family, one can find Prince William in Athens, who was baptized by Constantine, perhaps also the royal princess Anne, daughter of Elizabeth. Representatives of royal families from Sweden, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Norway will also arrive.
Position from Samara
Antonis Samaras took a stand on the issue of the former king, stating, among other things, that “democracies do not remain silent about their past” and added that “nothing threatens democracy in Greece. In each such sad event, we give tests for humanity and civilization. Elsewhere in his speech, Mr. Samaras speaks of a problem that has already been solved: “No ‘political chapter’ has been closed,” he says, “because ‘this has been closed for 49 years’.”
Refutation
Eddie Zemenidis denied the version of his origin from Epicratius with his post. “I have never been interested in territorial voting. I’ve said it publicly and I’ll say it again,” he wrote, adding, “Though I suspect those who continue to sell these scripts still don’t care about the truth.”
