Two days ago, the president of the Permanent Electoral Body, Constantin-Florin Mituletsu-Buike, said he was not resigning, even though ANI accused him of breaking the law when he hired his daughter-in-law to work for the institution the host worked for. However, within 48 hours, everything changed.

“I have not broken the law and I am not resigning,” Mituletsu-Buike said on Monday.

He claimed it was a “suspicion” for which there was “no basis”. “I will challenge the ANI report in court and make findings against it,” Mituletsu-Buike said.

When asked how his daughter-in-law (his wife’s sister) was hired at AEP, Mituletsu-Buike replied that her employment was “at the suggestion of a dignitary”, i.e. the vice-president of AEP, in whose office he is an adviser: “It was suggested by one of vice presidents, not me, because he doesn’t work in my office.”

Everything has changed since Monday. According to HotNews.ro sources, PSD, the party that supported him, asked him to resign.

In addition, the liberals shifted the responsibility to the social democrats.

“We Liberals have always been consistent in our approach to these matters, we will believe that people who are accused of situations like this should make it right by leaving office. In Romania, there are institutions authorized in the field of justice to investigate these cases,” Ionuc Stroe said on Digi 24 on Monday.

When asked if he expects the resignation of the AEP chairman, Ionuts Stroe replied: “The AEP chairman has publicly admitted to a television station the conflict of interest in which he finds himself.”
