Oikonomou: two elections will be required for a stable government

“It will take two electoral contests to have a stable, solid government, like the kind a country like Greece should have in an environment of international instability. The electoral procedures will probably start in the spring,” said Mr. Yannis Oikonomou to R/S SKAI 100.3.

A government spokesman said that Kyriakos Mitsotakis and in this part he was absolutely in agreement with what he said, that elections would be held at the end of four years, as close as possible to the end of the government’s term.

“We insisted that the elections would be held after four years, and there was a strong dispute about this. We said that we would not institutionally play with the elections, there would be no changes in the electoral law,” he stressed.

With regard to the ND ballots, he stated that the discussion had begun a long time ago. “The announcement of the names of leaders who were not members of parliament, in the constituency in which they will operate, began about 8-9 months. And indeed, when this process began, some people said that in order to announce the names, the elections were coming soon. The ballots of the New Democracy are, anyway, very largely completed, completed in the sense that members of the parliamentary group will again be candidates. But there will always be a strong dose of renewal. New faces who pass the test in the political arena will win the trust of their fellow citizens. We will be fully prepared in time and in the next period, as spring approaches, announcements of new people to join this effort will increase,” he added.
