Not so long ago it became known that Popi Tzapanidu takes over as press secretary SYRIZA – PS.
Alexis Tsipras greeted the experienced journalist with a message on social media: “Starting from the new year, the press representative of SYRIZA-PS will be Popi Tsapanidou. I salute her and thank her for accepting our offer.”
“Popi, an excellent journalist, a modern woman and mother, I am sure will make a decisive contribution to our common struggle,” he continued and thanked Nasos Iliopoulos, “who has represented us with belligerence and competence until today.”
Mr. Tsipras has long been looking for a man to replace Nasos Iliopoulos, who expressed his desire to fight the battle of the cross in First Athens. Yes, at the table as he mentioned theory, various names were excluded, mostly journalists with long careers in the field.
The attack on an experienced journalist, who from the very beginning was sure that he would take a responsible post, was carried out through third parties. Sources familiar with the case say the agreement was agreed at yesterday’s meeting, and today it was decided to make relevant statements. Alexis Tsipras made it clear from the beginning, according to the same sources, that Ms. Tsapanidou is his main candidate to represent SYRIZA-PS in the media. He believes that her dynamism suits the profile of SYRIZA-PS, and as an option, she also joins the party’s plan of bilateral expansion towards both the center-left and the left, which is what the official leader of the opposition wants.
Shortly before it became known that Popi Tsapanidou was becoming the spokesperson for SYRIZA-PS, OPEN broadcast a statement according to which the presenter and journalist had resigned for personal reasons. “OREN announces the end of cooperation with Popi Tsapanidou, who is retiring for personal reasons. As the central presenter, she has made a great contribution to further strengthening the credibility and objectivity of the central news bulletin. OREN sincerely thanks her for the offer,” the message says.
First of all, I would like to wish Mr. Iliopoulos success in his next projects. I hope that Ms. Tsapanidou, who is changing her role, will contribute to a fruitful political debate with arguments and evidence.

“Invest your role in a fruitful political confrontation with arguments and evidence,” government spokesman Yiannis Oikonomou wished Popi Tsapanid in a Twitter post following the announcement of the inauguration of the SYRIZA press representative.
Nasos Iliopoulos, as noted by the President of SYRIZA-PS, will lead the battle of the cross, as “he will be a candidate for Athens A and at the same time, as a strategic communications manager, he will continue to contribute to our election battle.” Stergios Kalpakis and Tania Karaganni remain as Deputy Press Representatives.
