On Monday, the Senate quietly approved a draft law submitted by the PNL, which provides for tax-free pensions of up to 3,000 lei. The initiative goes to the Chamber of Deputies for a final vote.
The legislative initiative provides that the monthly taxable pension income is determined by deducting from the pension income a non-taxable monthly amount of 3,000 lei and, depending on the circumstances, a contribution to social health insurance.
The initiator of the bill, PNL MP Raluka Tsurkan, claims that “in the context of accelerated growth in consumer prices, the purchasing power of elderly people with low pensions is falling.” Thus, Tsurkan proposes in the text of the draft law to raise the tax ceiling on pensions from 2,000 to 3,000 lei, “as a form of partial compensation for the inflation of the last period.”
“This latest project will increase small pensions very quickly, which is exactly what Mr. Çolaku says he wants,” Tsurkan explains.
The draft law will be considered by the Chamber of Deputies, which is the deciding body in this case.
