The project proposes to amend Article 1 of Law No. 57/2020 on the sustainable management of forests in Romania.

“From January 1, 2023, it is prohibited to export sawdust, bark or without bark, roundwood for 10 years,” the project states.

The initiator clarifies that the current law contains the first norm for the purpose of protecting forest resources, namely the ban on the export of logs, with or without bark, or roundwood for 10 years outside the EU. space from January 1, 2021, but this provision solves only part of the systemic problems of this sector and it is necessary to expand its application.

“The provisions of Law No. 57/2020 are a real first step both to prevent and combat illegal activities and to preserve and expand the forest fund, and the results of their application are visible and positive, but they solve only part of the systemic problems that this sector.

Considering the constant increase in the demand for wood in Romania due to the large number of factories that process and recycle in huge quantities one of the wealth of our country, I believe that it is necessary to ban the export of logs, with or without bark, or roundwood for a period of 10 years from January 1, 2023.

In order for the law, which has been in effect for two and a half years, to achieve its goal, it is necessary that it continue to operate. Only by preserving and protecting the forest fund will we be able to benefit from biodiversity and a healthy environment,” says Roman.

The bill will first be debated in the Senate, while the Chamber of Deputies is the decision-making body. (Agrepress)
